My name is Chad, I go by Chadrick with most of my friends. I'm a graphic designer, motionographer, audio engineer, and all around raconteur. I work for my church Grace Christian Fellowship as the publications director. I dabble extensively in live event production, and am currently on staff with a local ministry called Resilient Ministries doing creative direction and audio engineering.

Currently Kansas City is fortunate enough to call me a resident.

Crank the amps up to 11, TAP is back!!

Personal and political ideology aside, I've been watching the run up to Al Gore's Live Earth global warming world-wide music extravaganza with tepid interest. But an interesting, and for me wildly exciting, bit of information has caught my attention.

Mock-rock band Spinal Tap, who we all remember from Rob Reiner's mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap will be reuniting for a special performance at London's Wembley Stadium as part of the Live Earth concerts taking place on July 7. As a huge Spinal Tap fan, this is a big deal. And for those of you thinking that Spinal Tap has jumped on the Global Warming bandwagon, Rob Reiner's quote from this article can set your mind at ease:

"They're not that environmentally conscious, but they've heard of global warming," said Reiner... "Nigel thought it was just because he was wearing too much clothing that if he just took his jacket off it would be cooler."

Hopefully with the advances in audio technology, they can now turn their amps up to 12.

Lessons to learn from the Japanese.

As designers we're always challenged with coming up with creative ways to utilize space for promotions in our churches. Either the lobby is too small, the narthex is too big, or a dozen different ministries are competing for the same space.

Check out these examples of Japanese advertisers creatively utilizing limited space in the subway systems of Japan. Though we're not having to go as far as hijacking the hand rails in our stair wells for promotions space, it's always great inspiration to see how others in our field are thinking creatively to solve problems.

There's also a flickr page with additional examples of subway advertisement innovations.

Here is a video showing the subway tunnel videos used in many Japanese subways. Not actually a video, but a series of images to create a video (think a flip-book animation). Way cool stuff.

Tutorial Blog - Free Stock Image Round-up

Be sure to take a trip over today to the tutorial blog.

The folks at the the tutorial blog have been offering up a lot of great content geared towards graphic designers, and lovers of all things visual. Of recent note is their free stock image site round-up. They've managed to gather up a fairly comprehensive (at least of the major players) list of sites that you can go to and download free stock imagery to use in your designs. Be sure to read the usage agreements as they vary from site to site.

Anybody have any sites they use that aren't mentioned in the round up? If so post them in the comments section, I'll have a permanent listing set up on the CMS lab group page in the next few days.

Photoshop CS3 One-on-One Preview

Renowned software training company Lynda has rolled out a free Photoshop CS3 One-on-One Video Preview on their website. Hosted by legendary Photoshop guru Deke McClelland, this 17 part sneak preview goes over some of the basics of what is new in the CS3 version of Adobe's flagship software platform. Of particular interest in this new version of Photoshop is the ability to apply filters non-destructively, via the smart-filters option (think smart objects for those of you using CS2). Head on over to Lynda now, and get in on the preview goodness, there's right at 1 1/2 hours worth of free content for you to view, so get to it!

I'm interested to hear what everyone thinks of this new version of our beloved PS. Groundbreaking? Another in a long line of progressively better versions? Or nothing to write home about.
