Chechnyan Love

About Chechnyan Love:

Chechnyan Love is comprised of a single person, Samuel Qualls. Samuel has been playing, writing and on rare occasion performing music for a number of years. While he has been a member of multiple bands, his reclusive nature took over several years ago and he now plays alone, in a small, dark room. An aspiring musical perfectionist, he has never released any solo music to the public because he has never "finished" a song before now.

About the album Amalgamation:

Amalgamation was written and recorded during the month of February 2008 for the RPM Challenge. Only 9 days were spent working on it from beginning to end. Suffice to say, it was quite the undertaking. By the end of the month, 28 songs had been started, 16 of which were complete or near completion. When it came down to the last weekend, only 11 actually made it on the album.

Future Plans:

Chechnyan Love intends to release two more albums over the next year. The first will be a collection of primitive electronic songs created over a decade ago. The second will be all new material, with more of a minimalist, experimental noise sound to it.

Chechnyan Love Album Release - Coming Soon

The label has confirmed that they will be releasing the full album in November. It will be available online to download for free. I'll also be working on a new song for a compilation and a remix of another artists song for a separate compilation, both to be released early next year. If work ever settles down a bit, I'll start working on new songs for another full-length release. I plan on making the next one available on iTunes, Amazon, etc. We'll see how it goes.

So it looks like I have a record deal wit a small indie label in Germany. It's nothing big in the world of music, but I'm thrilled. Just the fact that a label sought me out means a lot. I'll post more details once everything is confirmed.

Iambic 5 Poetry is one of those songs that can fit a multitude of different moods. If I'm feeling a bit down or just want to relax with something to help me zone things out, then this is thee song. His other works are great too, but this is one that I can play pretty much anytime.

Ain't No Sunshine

This is one of my absolute favorites. It's one of those songs where the lyrics are simple and right to the point, yet don't lose any of there impact or seem stereotypical.

The three versions I have:

Ain't No Sunshine - Bill Withers - Greatest Hits
Ain't No Sunshine (Groove Corporation Dub) - Stryke - Staying In
No Sunshine - DMX - Exit Wounds

The Bill Withers version is by far the best, but the Stryke and DMX versions are both good (albeit quite different) in their interpretation of the original.

This song resides in a sad part of my life having to do with one of my failed attempts at a relationship. Everytime I listen to it I am reminded of things falling apart with a certain someone. For some odd reason though, as the years have gone by, I now find comfort in this song. I don't think it's one of those "misery loves company" situations, but rather that I find solace in the fact that a such beautiful song holds so many memories and meaning in my life.

On a brighter note, I had the pleasure of experiencing an intimate performance by Cat Power in a small, basement club several years ago. I must say that Chan Marshall reminds me a bit of Tom Waits in her delivery and the famous Doors concert where Jim Morrison sung the entire song with his back to the audience. The only downside was that the audience was almost as loud as the performance. Regardless, it was quite an enjoyable event.
