About Chris Thomson
Minneapolis saxophonist Chris Thomson has recorded and performed with many of the Twin Cities finest musicians; JT and Chris Bates, Jay Epstein, Bryan Nichols , Tanner Taylor, Michael Lewis, Adam Linz, Alden Ikeda, Tim Glenn, Greg Schutte, Adam Levy, Kelly Rossum, Yawo Attivor, and many others. It was at the short-lived Brilliant Corners jazz club that Thomson first entered the realm of leading and composing for his bands. After spending much of his early life studying classical music and jazz, Thomson began asking himself what a musician who plays instruments like saxophone and clarinet was going to offer in an over-saturated 21st century musical environment. He loves music of almost any genre and appreciates the depth of history offered by all the artists that have come before. In the past few years however, Thomson has been delving into the infinitely deep and ever-changing world of computer music finding new influences in the various styles of electronic music that he was exposed to by friends. It was after a bicycle accident in 2004 that he began to investigate creating his own music on a laptop. Since playing saxophone with an injury was not possible, he sought creativity in new sonic territory. After listening to artists including Autechre, Arovane, Bjork, the Notwist, Oval, Murcof, and many others, Thomson realized that his music had to reflect the love and respect he held for the brilliant minds behind these new sounds.
Gagosian Liga, Jul 1, 2007:
"We all admire the spangled acrobat with classical grace meticulously walking his tight rope in the talcum light; but how much rarer art there is in the sagging rope expert wearing scarecrow clothes and impersonating a grotesque drunk! I should know."
Thank you for your friendship! Musical greetings from Munich/Germany!
