Early Thursday morning I met my good friend Ryan for coffee at a local "mom & pop" coffee shop near Uptown Phoenix. It's called Starbucks and they carry the best-brewed coffee and espresso in town (don't ever settle for those big corporate coffee shops that burn their beans...local flavor is always better!).
Our conversation lasted over two hours, a time period where shallowness was nonexistent, burdens were shared, trust was abounding, and God was present. This kind of "walking small" with my brother in Christ reminds me of a passage from Hebrews 10: The author writes,
"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching." (Hebrews 10:24,25)
A conversation must not always be "spiritual", but it should be God-glorifying. Think about applying this passage to our everyday interactions with our brothers and sisters in Christ. In our conversations, we should be considering how we could be a catalyst to the person's spiritual walk. I have the "fleshly" tendency to pick my interactions with people based on the other person's contribution to me. However, with the mindset of spurring on one another toward love and good deeds, we have a community of believers that trust each other, share their burdens freely, and feel the presence of God among their midst.
Therefore, may we be a community of like-minded followers of Christ, considering how we may be a catalyst for love and good deeds.
