Happy Holidays ∞

I hope all of you are enjoying the holidays and hopefully 2009 has treated all of you well.

2010 should be a good year with lots of things to look forward to. It’s pretty exciting that John Bourke is moving to ny and also Preston, the founder of KissAtlanta.com (the other blog i write for) is moving to ny as well. I’m sure we’ll all be getting into a lot of trouble.

I’m currently working on an EP which i hope to release by spring so I’m pretty excited about that.

I wish all of you a ridiculous and debaucherous NYE.

Mirror People ∞

Last Tuesday I chatted with you about the cold. This week it is not cold. It has been pretty nice out the past few days, actually. I like it.

Today I give you a remix of a group that has seen a lot of growth in popularity the past few months. After we first posted about Neon Indian long ago, it is still one of our most popular posts to date. Always new traffic coming for the songs. Here is a nice subtle remix from a new group, Mirror People, that fits today perfectly.

Holy Ghost Doesn’t Fear the Reaper. ∞

Holy Ghost! did a pretty cool remix of the new Van She cover of Blue Oyster Cult’s Don’t Fear the Reaper. Unlike the original, which has a lot of layered synth sounds, the Holy Ghost version is pretty minimal. This is what Alex from Holy Ghost had to say about it on Myspace.

While we were on tour last spring we got asked to do a remix of Van She’s cover of Blue Oyster Cult’s “Don’t Fear The Reaper.” (A remix of a cover, how post-modern.) The deadline was really tight though, so the only way we could do it is if we rented a studio in Paris and worked there for the 5 days we had off. Luckily, we found a place we could work on such short notice.

We didn’t have ANY of our usual gear with us (let alone our hard drive!), so we built this thing on foreign equipment: old ludwig kit, roland jupiter 6, fender bass, roland sbf 325 stereo flanger, percussion, old upright piano, and of course, a space echo.

In the end it worked out….I think.

sayCet ∞

It’s super cold outside. We haven’t gotten any snow yet, which is alright with me because here in Oklahoma, if it snows, it SNOWS. We only get one or two snowfalls a year and they usually shut down the state.

Today is a day I would love to make a roaring fire in the fireplace and cover myself in blankets in front of that fireplace and play Xbox. Or watch Netflix or something. Anything but be outside.

sayCet would be a great accompaniment to my dream Tuesday. Very similar to such acts like múm and I Am Robot And Proud, and a slew of other groups, this style of music used to take over my iTunes playlists for a while. sayCet will probably be my reason to start listening to this stuff again, that plus the gloom of winter.

The DA ∞

Recently, I was fortunate enough to see a show by The D.A. From El Paso, Texas. They’re a five part band than includes keys, bass, guitar, drums, and most notably a trumpet player that uses all sorts of weird effects. They’ve got a great sound, and great lyrics that give the sonic landscapes they create some substance. They just got done with a midwest tour. They recorded their newest E.P. at a little place called the Sonic Ranch. When I say little Im joking, because it’s probably the largest recording complex in the United States. The lucky bastards were able to record on the same Neve console that Motown records and later, Madonna used. Check out their E.P! It’s a pretty awesome Post Punk/Dance Rock record, and I haven’t stopped listening to it. They have been gracious enough to post the entire E.P. for our readers to download!
