This is not a mystery for those who know me and have made time for conversation and reasonable discourse over the past few months. For that I am truly grateful.

This is why, above all else : A RETURN TO THE RULE OF LAW.
There's a full write up, par excellence, from Andrew Sullivan here.
In classic Sullivan fashion, here's the money quote :
Cheney and Bush, unlike any presidency in American history, have dangerously pushed constitutional government to the brink of collapse.
To those who disagree on the grounds of policy differences, and to those who find the prospect of an Obama administration scary (for reasons of the unknown, unfamiliar, or unspoken), I hope with everything in me that We The People can come together, no matter who wins tomorrow, and find a way to heal our nation and restore our peaceful place in the world.
To recap an email I sent some extended family last week :
I believe we should be talking to our enemies.
I believe we should not "drill baby drill" as an 11th hour afterthought, and that we have squandered an opportunity to lead the world on the innovation and application of renewable energy.
I believe in calm and thoughtful leadership, and feel confident that leaders who surround themselves with people who offer differing opinions and dissent - instead of "Yes" men - will serve the greater good instead of their own instinctual "gut feelings."
I believe John McCain's first presidential-level decision (his choice of running mate) is a resounding gong of cynicism and a disastrous failure, and for that reason alone the Republican ticket will not get my vote this year (I voted for Bush).
I believe in Libertarianism, but I'm voting for Obama.
with peace and love,
Daniel
