Evangeline Cafe

alt
Ever had frog legs? No? Man, you are missing out. Last night we joined my parents at the much lauded Cajun Restaurant blocks away from our house, Evangeline Cafe. First up, Shiner Bock all around. Second up, fried frog legs. They were killer, and much to my wife's credit she not only tried them but enjoyed them!

Then we all dug in to the menu ending up with 3 different selections. My Crawfish Evangeline was pretty dang good, Halle's Stuffed Redfish was tasty, but my dad's choice of Catfish with Crawfish Macque Choux was the clear winner.

If you haven't tasted good Cajun food, you haven't lived.

All of it was enjoyed to the lovely tunes of Cowboy Johnson and his small band.

I have to say it reminded me of one of the clear differences between here and CA. Cowboy Johnson only had about 1/4 of the restaurant that was clearly there to listen to him play. But the entire place would cheer and whistle at the end of every song and even during solos. It's rare to see a place completely engaged with the music at that level, especially in a restaurant.

I played gigs in CA for roughly 9 years, and I never once experience a crowd like that with any gig I played even when music was the primary purpose of the night. Why is that? Any guesses?
