Guitar Tracks and Marc Davison

Marc and Ryan throwing out the awesome vibe

Today the recording resumes, with my good friend Marc Davison heading into the studio to lay down more guitar tracks. I've been a bit distracted over the past few weeks, what with moving 1,500 miles and all, but I'm very excited about the new things that are coming together on these songs.

I can't wait to show you what we come up with as it gets added! Marc has decided to step it up a notch as well. Due to circumstances that will be left unmentioned right now, it can actually be said that Marc literally bled for these songs and almost died during the recording. Now THAT is commitment. I think I just failed the commitment test on my own album, by getting one upped by the guitar player. Ouch.

Marc's toys

Here is another scratch track for you to hear as the recording is coming together.
This is a completely new song. I'm trying to decide whether I even need to add other instruments.

Hope You Find Love - rough scratch tracks

No? Man, you are missing out. Last night we joined my parents at the much lauded Cajun Restaurant blocks away from our house, Evangeline Cafe. First up, Shiner Bock all around. Second up, fried frog legs. They were killer, and much to my wife's credit she not only tried them but enjoyed them!

Then we all dug in to the menu ending up with 3 different selections. My Crawfish Evangeline was pretty dang good, Halle's Stuffed Redfish was tasty, but my dad's choice of Catfish with Crawfish Macque Choux was the clear winner.

If you haven't tasted good Cajun food, you haven't lived.

All of it was enjoyed to the lovely tunes of Cowboy Johnson and his small band.

Willie, Kris, and Cowboy Johnson

I have to say it reminded me of one of the clear differences between here and CA. Cowboy Johnson only had about 1/4 of the restaurant that was clearly there to listen to him play. But the entire place would cheer and whistle at the end of every song and even during solos. It's rare to see a place completely engaged with the music at that level, especially in a restaurant.

I played gigs in CA for roughly 9 years, and I never once experience a crowd like that with any gig I played even when music was the primary purpose of the night. Why is that? Any guesses?
