Dan Mangan

Acoustic / Indie / Folk

Vancouver, Canada

Billboard

At the tender age of seven, Dan Mangan's first goal was to memorize and recite Abbey Road's side 'B'. Check. At 17, it was to record his first EP. Check. Now, at 24, it's to meander into the stereo and hometown of music lovers worldwide. Plan of attack? Release his debut album Postcards & Daydreaming on July 10th, 2007 and tour - a lot. With two recently completed tours of both the US and UK - including a feature in the Brit-tastemaker magazine, NME - and let's not forget the umpteen festival performances, three west coast tours and clutches of east coast dates, one could definitely say he's off to a good start.

Tying together the roots of acoustic folk and subtle symphonic pop, "Postcards & Daydreaming" is unabashedly mellow. However, it's Mangan's powerful, weather-beaten vocals that hint at something epic lurking in the undertones. Influenced both by songsmiths of old (Nick Drake, Woody Guthrie) and sonic innovators of late (Neutral Milk Hotel, Sigur Ros), Mangan's "old soul" is made obvious through his lyrical ruminations on both the harmful capabilities and the intrinsic beauty of human foibles. Think Kurt Vonnegut with a gravelly sweet singing voice.

"As an artist, I feel that when you are writing, no matter the medium or style, you should always be saying something," said Mangan, from his home in Vancouver, BC. "It doesn't have to be as significant as changing the world, but it should be important to you."

Mangan has a great appreciation for power of words and a deep admiration for writers of all kinds. Not one to stay safely inside the singer/songwriter box, he has collaborated with spoken word artist Shane Koyczan, performed alongside acclaimed storyteller Ivan Coyote and Juno Award nominee DJ Champion. Mangan has also been featured on the Bravo! television network and XM Satellite Radio's "The Verge" - where Mangan's seven-minute fan-fave "So Much For Everyone" became the channel's fourth most requested song in July '06 alongside The Dears and The Meligrove Band.

Dan Mangan has also completed his debut video for the song "Journal Of A Narcoleptic" and he will be touring across Canada, Australia, USA & UK in 2007 & early 2008 - dates to be announced - before he heads into the studio to start working on a new album. Postcards & Daydreaming is available now through all music shops (Canada only) and online digital retailers & will be released in the USA on Nov. 6, 2007 via Canadian independent label File Under: Music.

Dan... You're the man!!! You fucking Rock!!! Do you play any shows in Vancouver? I notice that you're from here but are playing in Australia right now. Congrats on all the success. You definitely deserve it. It's so awesome to see people that don't need auto-tune and a couple thousand dollar production to have a good sound. You are all raw talent boy!
