Dan Workman

Dan's career in audio production began when he could no longer sustain the rigor of being a founding member of the critically acclaimed (and popularly anonymous) art/rock/noise band, Culturcide. Since then, he has earned dual citizenship in the indie and mainstream music world working with the likes of Beyonce', Destiny's Child, Clay Walker, Joyce Pierce, Hubert Laws, ZZ Top, The Pain Teens, Sarah Sharp, The Southern Backtones, and Winter Wallace. Dan has mixed over twenty feature films and has composed music for the CNBC Series: 'American Made'.

Today, he is co-owner of SugarHill Recording Studios--one of the oldest continuously operating studios in US, (66 years). He is also the reigning despot at Dan Workman Music--the aptly named front office for his production company. When not absorbed in music, Dan loves to take insanely long trips on his ancient 1977 BMW motorcycle. He lives in Houston, Texas with his punk rock diva wife, Christi, daughter, Joe Ann, two cats, and a family of raccoons who have learned how to sneak in his kitchen through the cat door.

Jake Dalton, Rich Whiting and I had been working on Jake's project for about a year by the time we cut 'Bones'. The song had a certain Sound Garden vibe that we tried to take to another level. Jake closed the deal with a 'primal scream' but soulful vocal.

A Rich Whiting arrangement of a Cari Quoyeser (Suburban Warfare) song. When we did our first production arrangement meeting, Rich and both latched on to this song. It's poppy, but the choruses rock. My normal mix partner, Steve Christensen was in NYC, so I mixed this one myself, and ended up being very satisfied with the work. Cari is talented, and is getting a lot of attention. Keep you ears open because you will be hearing more of her in the future.

Here is a song inspired by Dorothy's journey on the yellow brick road, by Girl Friday (aka Lisa Serice). I met Lisa at a SugarHill/Grammy mixer and she boldly gave me her demo. I listened, and here are the results!

Lisa's music is delightful, her lyrics, considered and honest, and her enthusiasm for her particular corner of the world is palpable and contagious.

This is the amazing Kaitlyn Knippers from Tomball, Texas, along with the songwriting/arranging team, The Trinity (JJ Worthen, Rich Whiting, and moi, producerboy). I referenced Avril Lavigne, 'Sk8tr Boi' while mixing it. Kaitlyn and her family are absolutely wonderful people, and I have made some wonderful friends while working on this song.
