Today I spent a ridiculously hot and humid summery day sculpting some maquettes in the city from the 2d designs that were produced earlier. After blocking out the masses of the characters, I transported them home and set them up for a first pass analysis. Now I'm at the stage of taking orthographic shots of the models (which I'll post later) and applying digital paint over the top to realise the texturing of the final models.

This is just a rough test to understand the model, and to quickly and loosely be able to modify the models before they are digitally sculpted. It's like sketching rough drawings but in 3d! Recently I've been quite the insomniac. Twelve thousand, and twenty six million, seventy four hundred and two things are flowing through my head, but I think most of my brain shuts down post 1am after a hard day's work. I figured that I can't really safely process any important thoughts at this point in time, but it forces my arm to want to regurgitate weird things.

As a result, I'm attempting to regularly doodle a series of miscellaneous nonsense until my brain runs out of joules to burn. Lately I've been averaging 4am as a time to retreat to dream land. Another Illustration for the Hatchlings Application. I still don't get what the heck is up with the whole Groundhog Day tradition, but they sure are funny looking guys. Upon research, I learned that people call this critter the land beaver, whistlepig and of course The woodchuck. I'm still confused as to why people dress them up in little outfits, and have a whole day dedicated to this furry barometer.

And does anyone really know how much wood could a woodchuck chuk if a woodchuk could chuck wood? Sure Beats me!

Brad Dwyer was keen to get me to get a new batch of animals together for his Facebook Hatchlings Application. These guys spilled out of that. I love animals a lot. So many silly shapes to play with!
