Currently, I'm sitting in History of Christianity. I have always wished this type of class was about, oh, I don't know, Christianity. It would be great to have a class about the development of thought and how the church represented itself throughout history. But it always seems to turn out being about what a certain Pope did and who they killed and what empires split over who was the Pope and where the Pope's house was located. We are also talking about ancient Christian buildings and their "beauty." We skimmed over the thought of Abelard, Anselm, Aquinas, Calvin, and it looks like we will be skimming over the thought and enormous effects of Luther in favor of more study of Popes and the like. Would it be too much to ask to just focus on the great influential people and works since the first century and not work about sequence of all the different Popes and the divisions and union of nations?
In other words, I am bored to tears. It would take a huge cup of coffee, quite possibly an espresso, in order for me to be able to just sit and listen. That's why I'm doing this. I can't stay awake without doing something interesting. I can't imagine carrying less about this. And, I have yet to find it useful.
