David Ramirez has been writing and performing for over seven years. His music career came from a humble beginning, with a few friends in Houston, TX who simply wanted to play a few shows for their families and close friends. As time continued and David's writing began to mature, it quickly became evident that there would soon be more in store than just backyard gigs.
A move to Dallas, TX for school threw David into several relationships that pushed his passion even further. After re-writing a few old tunes and writing several new ones, David felt ready to record his first album. "11503 Lansbury" (2003) served as the launching pad for David's solo career that would send him to bars, coffee shops, and universities all over Texas.
As the shows became more frequent and the crowds grew larger, David made the decision to begin traveling with a band made up of three other individuals. Soon the group's commitment to play increased and the four musicians made the decision to finally make it official by dubbing themselves as "The David Ramirez Band." This band would go on to release two albums "Human" (2005) and "While Underneath Lights" (2007). The group dabbled in a few different musical avenues but after much discussion and critique, they planted their feet in the acoustic pop realm. This is where David has been for the past 5 years.
A year after the release of "Human," David took up an opportunity to do a month long solo tour along the east coast that would eventually lead him down a whole new road: folk. When the tour was over, David began a side project called "Above the Blue," a collection of music that explored all the darker and more introspective areas of his heart.
"There are a lot of things in my head that I don't feel can all be tackled in pop," says David in response to the creation of Above the Blue, "and there is this huge need in me to get them out."
This need eventually grew big enough to put the band to rest and after a lot of hard decision-making, David eventually decided to leave Texas and see how another part of the country would respond to his musical endeavors.
Currently David lives in Nashville, TN where the surrounding excellence in the local continually stretches him. He is currently working on the Above the Blue project and continues to pursue his pop rock side.
