Now You Can Edit Google Spreadsheets On Android and iPhones

That is great, but I have tried on my phone. It seems not working. Maybe I should give a few days to get the feature work properly.... hmm... hmm...

*****************************************

by Erick Schonfeld on February 13, 2009

Google Spreadsheets can now be edited on Android mobile phones and iPhones. Up until now, all Google Docs (online docs, spreadsheets, and presentations) could only be viewed on mobile phones. Editable spreadsheets work inside the mobile browser, which for both Android and iPhone is based on Webkit.

Jonathan Rochelle, the senior product manager in charge of Google Spreadsheets, showed me the app on his Android G1 a couple weeks ago. As he added rows, edited, sorted, and filtered on his phone, the changes would automatically be reflected in the same spreadsheet on his desktop. (I took a photo of him doing this--with my iPhone, naturally). Each row can be edited by clicking on an "edit" link, and columns can be sorted via a box at the top of each one which then pops open an overlay screen that allows you to select each name or other variable you want to view in that column.

The feature went live this morning on Android G1 phones, but I am having trouble seeing it on my iPhone (that could be my phone, or the roll-out process to iPhones could be taking longer). Update: It is now working on my iPhone, although it is a bit buggy. The sort function brings up the slot-machine cylinder interface, but clicking on the Edit link doesn't do anything. It works great on my Android, though. Nokia S60 series phones are also supported. You can check it out on a mobile phone by opening up the Google App or going to m.google.com/docs on your mobile browser.

The new feature will be welcomed by anyone who wants to change a spreadsheet while on the go. It works only when the phone is connected to the Internet (no Google Gears version yet). And it works only on spreadsheets. Docs and presentations remain view-only on mobile phones for now.

Samsung unveils Blue Earth, a solar-powered mobile phone

That is a nice idea of having a solar-powered phone. And mostly it is a recycled mobile device! Great! To tell you the truth, Technology has really amazed me over last few years now.

****************************************

from Engadget by Ross Miller

Samsung's Blue Earth handset might just be taking the green thing to a whole new extreme. Made from PCM, a recycled plastic from water bottles, the phone boast an "eco" mode for efficiently adjusting screen brightness, backlight duration and Bluetooth usage, and an "eco walk" app / built-in pedometer to tell you how much CO2 emission you've saved by walking instead of driving. The best part? It's got a giant solar panel on the back that'll apparently charge it enough to make a phone call anytime the sun's peaking out. Of the form factor, Sammy says it "symbolizes a flat and well rounded shiny pebble" -- which we hope means it can skip puddles with the best of 'em. It'll come in recycled packaging with an energy efficient charger. What we don't know, unfortunately, is what makes this phone tick, neither OS nor hardware specs. Not a word on price yet, but UK environmentalists can look forward to this one second half of this year.

I want Mimo 7" USB displays!!!

Mimo 7" USB displays
from TUAW by Mat Lu

I've been fascinated by these little 7" USB displays since they first started showing up on the gadget blogs a few weeks back. At first it didn't look like they were going to be available in the States, but now Mimo Monitors is preparing to ship a couple of models soon. These little displays connect to your Mac with just a USB cable and provide an extra 800 x 480 pixels worth of desktop space.

Obviously, that's not really enough screen real estate for serious work, but it could be perfect for stashing away palettes or something like an iChat Buddy List. Mimo is offering two model: the plain vanilla 710 for $129.99 and the somewhat fancier 740 which adds a webcam, mic, and touchscreen for $199. Both include Mac display drivers, but if you want the 740 you'll annoyingly have to shell out an extra $30 for a third-party touchscreen driver. Both come with a detachable stand that allows the display to rotated.

Given that you can pick up a full sized 22" LCD for around $200 these days, I can't help thinking these Mimo's are over-priced. On the other hand, if you don't have another display output or if you want to turn your iMac into a replica of the Space Shuttle cockpit, these might be just the thing.

Sam the Koala (the very much blogged Koala who was being given water from a bottle by a CFA volunteer).

Carer Jenny Shaw said Sam suffered burns on her paws and was in a lot of pain, but was on the road to recovery. She was put on an IV drip and is on antibiotics and pain relief treatment. "She is lovely - very docile - and she has already got an admirer. A male koala keeps putting his arms around her," Ms Shaw said.

On a wildlife tragic note:

Fire may have killed a million native animals

However, a wildlife expert says more than a million native animals may have perished in Victoria's fire inferno.

The massive effort to rescue animals caught in the fire has begun with triage centres set up to assess injured wildlife at staging posts at Kilmore, Whittlesea and Redesdale near Bendigo.

The animals are then being treated and assessed by vets at nearby shelters, who make the agonising decision about which ones need to be euthanased.

Those animals still able to may wait several weeks before walking out of fire-affected forest, Gayle Chappell from the Hepburn Wildlife Shelter said.

Ms Chappell is among those working to rescue the animals and says the extent of the devastation may never be known.

"It (the animal death toll) will be in the hundreds of thousands, possibly millions," Ms Chappell said.

"We are not just talking the animals we are familiar with, there are gliders and all sorts of possums, antechinus (a mouse-like marsupial), bandicoots, birds - there is so much wildlife.

"It is devastating, the actual size of the destruction is devastating to a number of wildlife populations."

It is feared endangered populations of gliders, owls and lizards may be among the dead.

Cons: Dizzy, dazed, can't do much else except lie on the couch while breathing clearly through both nostrils.

Tylenol

Pros: Works moderately. Generally mutes some of the unpleasant effects of having a cold, such as minor aches and a slight fever.

Cons: Limited in scope. Doesn't completely fix anything.

Natural stuff (vitamin C, zinc, herbal "remedies", etc.)

Pros: No side effects.

Cons: No effects.

Coffee

Pros: Actually works as a mild decongestant and a general feel-a-bit-better drug in small doses.

Cons: Effects are short-lived.

Letting your body do its job for a few days

Pros: No side effects. Actually works.

Cons: No drug companies or natural-remedy slingers make any money off of you.
