I say some reallyyyy not-thinking-at-the-moment things some times. It's actually become quite a joke at work. It started 2 weeks after a new manager started there. There's also the incident with "pure leather". Two have happened in the past week and I just can't resist blogging about my boba-ness.

Last week, I was working, and I mentioned how I needed the 2009 refill for my planner. The manager was immediately insulted because he was in SHOCK I hadn't gotten one and assumed that I had a disorganized life since December 31, 2008. I told him no, I was doing perfectly fine. When he questioned my wonderful techniques, I explained it like this:
"Well, see, I bought my planner in July 2008. I used it from then on. On January 1, 2009, I turned to January 1, 2008 in the planner and started using it there. It actually was a little bit confusing seeing that, I dont know, THE DAYS ARE DIFFERENT. But hey, I coped. He called me "ridicula" and insisted I get the 2009 refill asap.

Same manager, this was tonight...

We were doing inventory check...

Manager: Amanda, cuentame todas las piezas y digame cuantos son.
Me: Do I count each earring separate?
(roaring laughter throughout the store, because everyone heard me)
Manager: (after finally containing himself) Well do you sell one earring to a customer? No ridicula.

It's in the book of endless "boba" moments. Just thought I'd share. :)

Happy February. The past month has been eye-opening. Here's why...

1. You actually have to study in college. It's taken me 5 months to grasp that simple concept. It's all I've done the past 3 days.

2. Dell chargers aren't meant to work. They're meant to only last at least 3 months tops. True story. I have become best friends with every Arab guy on that Dell 1-800 hotline group because I've yelled at them all about how my warranty is expiring and my laptop's is a piece of crap. Besides, this wouldn't be the first time.

3. God spoke to me and told me to name my car Turbo. Maybe that's because in order to get to 50mph, I must hold the gas as it slowly inches up 20, 25, 30, 35 and then it does some sort of turbulence thing to like 45mph. Some friends think it's hilarious.

4. I bought both Mates of State CD's. I'm loving them.

5. God actually did speak to me. I'm a work in progress. We'll see how things go...

music + lyrics.

I've always played the piano, but over the past few years, I like writing music too. As in, songs. Sometimes I actually like what I've written but other times... ugh, it sucks. Cause I feel like I have this cool melody, but the lyrics are lame. I want to write something meaningful. I'm not aspiring to be some singer/songwriter rockstar, but my thoughts, when I don't feel like telling the world on my blog, can sometimes sound nice with a few chords. I think that I'm doing pretty good, and I feel something progressing, but when I look at the finishing product, I think I could've done so much better. I need inspiration... maybe take a walk or something. I was watching the movie Music & Lyrics on HBO and it's all about what I'm talking about. Also, recently someone told me I should record my playing, like the melody, without the lyrics. Eh, maybe one day. This is way too much rambling for one night, but it's what was on my mind. If I write something worthwhile, perhaps I'll share...

Hello 2009. Happy new year. This past week has been pretty chill for me; not much has happened. A lot of sleeping in, which is fantastic. A lot of returns at work, which is not fantastic. It is what it is.

I have been very anxious to go back to school. I've been dreading it, actually. Yesterday, it was all I thought about. I came home from work around 8ish, and got a blank notebook, some paper, and pens. I prepped my bag, as if it was my first day in kindergarten or something. I guess last semester royally sucked for me on the academic side, so it was time for new beginnings. All this hype about the new year had me wired.

Today, I woke up at 8 am, and got dressed. I wore this awesome Urban Outfitters shirt that Steph bought me for Christmas, because I wanted to be comfortable. I had to drive all the way to BFE so that my dad could drop off his truck at the garage, and brought my dad back home. My first class started at 10, and it was 9:05. It was super early, so I ate a smores pop tart, because I wanted to have a healthy breakfast and be energetic. I proceeded to send my friends Katie & Chris a "Have a good first day" text. This is when I set out to drive.

I checked, double checked, triple checked that I had my schedule, fresh paper, cell phone, pens, and pencils. I thought of how I wanted this semester to be different. ::Buzz:: New Text Message from Katie. "School starts tomorrow. Good job."

I don't know what's sadder. The fact that I triple checked my schedule and didn't see "Spring Classes start Tuesday, January 6th or the fact that spring classes would actually start on a Tuesday. Ew.

the end of the year blog

Since I graduated from high school, I've been pretty good at consistently writing at least one (usually more) blog(s) a week. I currently have no excuse, seeing that I have been off from school for over a week. Sucks, but there haven't really been very many funny a.k.a. blog-worthy stories. Christmas was good, can't complain. ;) Christmas Eve was a pretty chill night for me, seeing that I closed at work, thus I couldn't do much. However, Love Actually and a bowl of vanilla ice cream and I was set. I feel it in my fingers. I feel it in my toes... Gosh, it never gets old. :)

So usually around this time of year I find myself writing long drawn out blogs about how the past year has been or how the next will be. Maybe I eventually will, but for now all I can say is 2008 was huge and full of change for me. 2009 will be my adjustment to that change. I've made a hell of a lot of mistakes, but I'm picking myself back up and looking straight ahead. This is room for a learning experience.

This is weird. This post is random. No worries, I'll be back.

So I was at work today, and a customer comes with her slip to be rung up. The woman was a bit eccentric, royal blue eyeshadow up the wall and platinum blonde hair. She was Latina, with tight white pants and platform heels, but what freaked me out the most were her nails. She had acrylics that were at least 6 inches long with this weird funky print on them. Whoa.

She told me her name was Ivy. She paid for cash so I didn't ask for an I.D., and she said she was from Puerto Rico so I didn't take her info down.

After she left, my manager said, "Was she nice?!" And I'm like, "Who?" She's like, "You don't know who she is?" Apparently, her artist name is Ivy Queen, and she's like the queen of reggaeton. She's famous for those crazy long nails. Go figure for me to have conversation with someone "somewhat" famous and not even know it.

Anyone heard of her?

I got out of work last night at 12ish. However, My gas was on empty. Like touching the E. But it was really late and I didn't want to put gas. So I turned off the air, rolled down the windows, and thankfully got all green lights. However, there's a lot of construction on Kendall near my house, so I eventually took 104 so it wouldn't be so much stop-and-go. I was starving but hadn't stopped anywhere because I was afraid I'd get stuck there and wouldn't be able to go home. BUT. McDonald's prevailed. (Or so I thought). I pulled in to get stuck in a super long line, since it's got such a great late-night menu (Or so I thought).

I decide to turn the engine off when in park. So there were like 4 cars in front of me, and 4 behind. I'm there waiting for 15 minutes. By now it's one. Everytime I move up in the line I have to start the engine again. Move 10 inches. Then put it back into park and turn the engine off. What can I say, I was scared. I started dreaming about eating a cheeseburger and great salty fries. I was soooo hungry. This is the following conversation with the refugee idiot in the drive thru.

Me: Can I have a cheeseburger meal plain please?
Idiot (pauses): We no have cheeburger now.
Me: (Wow, they sold out?) What?
Idiot: We have late-night menu. 2 to 10.
Me: (Mind you, #2 is a quarter pounder with cheese) Fine. Can I get the #2. Plain. With cheese.
Idiot (pauses): But we no have cheeseburger late night.
Me: FORGET IT!
Idiot: Have good night.

I storm off, shocked that my car takes me home.
Lesson Learned: Stick to BK.

five songs i can't stand

1. If I Were a Boy - I don't know what it is since Beyonce got married, but if she's bitter about that, then she can change herself. Did you hear? Now that she claims diva-ness, she is now Sasha Fierce. Lame.

2. Feliz Navidad - It was funny last year. And the year before that. And the year before that. But just because it's the only Spanglish Christmas song doesn't mean it needs to be Miami's theme song come December 1st. (I hear it every day at work)

3. T-Shirt - I don't know if anyone's heard it, but some chick singing/whining about staying home "with nothing but your t-shirt onnnnnn" is annoying. What a creeper.

4. Womanizer - Yep. It got to me. At first I thought it was catchy. Now I just want her to come up with a new word to say over and over again.

Ok so I could only think of four. But man. Thank God for good music to balance my ears out. :)

I love the holidays. Dadeland is currently underway of converting into a place of festivities lol. Ha, everytime I hear the word "festive", I think of stupid Mariah Carey at the Jingle Ball concert like 5 years ago. She showed up in some huge white fur outfit with sparkles and glitter and what not, and asked, "Do I look festive enough for you?" in her annoying voice. Gah, I still make fun of her today. So I was cleaning yesterday at work, and the song playing was, "Just hear the sleigh bells jingling... ring-ding..." I actually hate that song, because in high school we played it EVERY year at the end of EVERY Christmas concert. No lie, it got old. But still. We're only mid way into November and the Christmas trees and lights are already out. I guess work has finally showed me how important the holidays are for retail, because it is getting HECTIC. Omg lol, I never used to shop for holidays, I never used to shop on Black Friday, I always stayed away from the mall around this time... till now. Still, I like it. Stress builds, but I like it.

Hey so most of you didn't know, but my grandfather had open-heart surgery yesterday. He's needed some sort of new valve for years, but refused to have the surgery because he didn't feel any symptoms, so he'd rather not risk the life he's got. Well, it got to a point that he didn't really have any choice, because if he didn't, he WAS risking it. Anyway, he had the surgery, and it took about six hours. He's currently in the ICU and will probably remain there for the rest of the weekend. My mom has been at the hospital all day yesterday and today, and is staying with my grandma at her house at night. I saw him today, and he looked a lot better for having surgery only yesterday. But please, continue praying for him. I've actually never visited someone in the ICU; no one in my close family has ever had such a major surgery. Obviously, it's a lot different than just seeing him in a normal room with a bunch of other patients.

My grandfather is 83 years old, and he's still running. He's a strong man of faith, and is so not done with life yet. Everyone who knows him knows this, including his 7 brothers and sisters, who at one point or another, have visited these past two days, even if they didn't get to see him. I actually thought it a little funny when I went to the front desk to get my name tag, and when the man asked for the patient's last name, and I said, "Acebo," he chuckled and said, "That's quite a popular name around here." Apparently, word got around and anyone who knew him (neighbors, family members, pastors, etc) came to visit.

It made me smile. :)

The Short List

As I sit in my car recapping on the news that the doctor just informed me with, I am in shock. What am I going to do? I begin to sob, but through my tears, out of the corner of my eye, I see a blank piece of paper sticking out of my glove compartment. I pull it out, along with a pen. This is my list of things to be accomplished before I die. I have up to 72 hours. There is no time to waste.

I have always wanted to travel. I wish my parents were into planning trips to exotic places, or at least somewhere out of Florida. I've always had dreams of visiting foreign countries, but it is too late for that now. There's no time to ride a gondola in Italy or to visit the Eiffel Tower in France. However, there is one place that I've always wished to go. It is a realistic dream, and I do not understand why it was never accomplished. I wish to go to New York City and watch The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. It is somewhere that I have wished to visit since I was a child. So that is what I wrote down.

As I stared at the paper, I could not think of anything else that could possibly be accomplished within three days. I started thinking about my friends. Yes, I do have a fun group of friends that I enjoy going out with, but they were not the ones I wanted to have accompany me on my trip. For my dying wish, I wanted my three closest friends to join me. Each of these friends have made a lasting impact in my life, and they, along with my family, my aunt, and my grandmother, would be the perfect people to take with me.

I know I am loved by my large family. My grandfather has 7 brothers and sisters, so I have a ton of cousins. However, since I wouldn't be able to see all of them, I will write a letter. It will be my goodbye letter, and I'll post it on my online journal. There, everyone can read it, and know that I love them.

I'm staring at the list now, realizing that it is very short. I know I do not have a lot of time, as the doctor reported to me, and though I wish I could have lived longer, I am satisfied with the life I have lived. I wish I got married, or had children, or traveled the world, as previously mentioned. However, I believe God has a reason for everything. But there is no time to figure this one out.

There is only one thing left to do from my dying wish list. I want to visit a beach. I want it to be a private, secluded beach, where I can lie on the sand in my favorite jeans, wrapped around in a blanket, alone. I will sleep there, listening to the waves. There is where I will experience absolute peace. It would be the perfect place to never wake up.

high beams? off.

I had just come out of watching a certain movie with Genevie and her little sister Emily. Emily had wanted Starbucks, but she's young and it was too late out for her, so we agreed to meet back at her house. As I'm driving out, I see her Beretta pulling out, so I stop and let her pass. Then I start flicking on my high beams just to piss her off, cause it's funny. All of a sudden, the car pulls into the Barnes 'n Noble, so I pull in, figuring, hey, Genevie changed her mind and is getting her sis Starbucks. By this point I had turned off my high beams already. The car stops in front of the entrance of Starbucks, and I laugh. A little boy no more than 9 years old opens the passenger door, turns around, faces me, and flicks me off! Ohhhh crap. I got out of there so fast since I was afraid his ghetto parent/guardian/sibling who taught their son such finger motions was gonna come after me. Two minutes later, I see Genevie pulling out, and proceed to follow her. This time, minus the high beams... just in case. ;-)

Anyone else have interesting stories about being on the road? Or is it just me? LOL.
