Edwin Spring/Summer 2010 Lookbook

We’ve got another quick Spring/Summer 2010 preview tonight from one of our favourite brands.  You know how much we love Edwin here at Denim Geek and we always jump at the chance of having a flick through the lookbooks as soon as they’re released.
Building on this year’s nautical trend, Edwin are basing the bulk of the new collection on a solid maritime theme and it looks top notch.  You can’t help but be reminded of cliff faces and crashing waves whilst browsing through some of the photos.  Ships and anchors are also the dishes of the day and adorn a number of the tees and shirts on show.  These additions compliment the denim well though and it should please the masses to know that Edwin are bringing back some denim classic cuts and fits along with brand new styles.  You can have a flick through the new lookbook at http://issuu.com/cloth-lurgan/docs/ss-10_lookbook.  Let us know what you think!

Jay-Z Rocking G-Star Raw

Now, if you’re a regular reader of Denim Geek you’ll know that we don’t really feature too many celebrities wearing denim.  It’s all a little too easy and we try to shy away from all of that kind of thing.  Saying that, there may be more in the future.  Anyway, Jay-Z has long been one of the most stylish men on the globe and we couldn’t resist sharing this with you guys.

At his recent performance at the MTV Europe Music Awards, the rapper/entrepreneur was rocking a tremendous double denim look topped off with a G-Star Raw denim shirt.  Check it out.  The shirt in question can bought from all good online G-Star Raw stockists and G-Star retail stores.  If you haven’t checked out their site already, visit www.gstarraw.com.  We’re working on the jeans.

X-Factor: Olly Murs in Double Denim

Olly Murs Does Double Denim

OK, own up.  Who’s been watching it?  It’s that time of year again when X-Factor fever is sweeping the UK and it’s just as much fun to check out what the contestants are wearing as it is listening to them sing.  Denim Geek has had a few E-Mails since the weekend asking us to track down the denim shirt that favourite, Olly Murs tore open on Saturday night’s show.  Anyway, we just wanted to let you guys know that we tracked down said elusive shirt.

Olly was wearing a beautiful faded wash denim dress shirt by high end brand DSquared2.  You can get your hands on it for a mere £280 at http://www.coggles.com/store/item/Dsquared/82190.  You know the geek though, we always want to go one better, so we found his jeans aswell, we think.  Olly’s bottom half seems to be covered in these All Saints skinny fit pipe jeans.

Site Problems and This Week’s G-Star Raw Party!

We had a few problems with the site yesterday due to bandwidth problems but everything should be sorted now! Anyway, the geek had a great night on Wednesday!  At least all of that stressing out about what to wear ended up being worth it.  I headed off to the riverside with my workmates to attend a party held by the wonderful people at G-Star Raw after spending the first half of this week asking myself around a thousand questions.  Should I wear G-Star?  Should I go double denim?  Should I dress up or dress down?  Nightmare.
If you’ve been following my tweets this week you’ll know that I finally decided on my Edwin SEN Skinny Jeans (which can be seen in the image below along with some nice Levi’s 511s) and a rather nice knit/shirt combo by Rough Justice.  G-Star were showcasing their new collection as well as saying a thank you to a few stores in the North of England for stocking the brand.  The dimly lit room was awash with people donning double denim, as well as some beautiful jeans from the likes of Nudie, Edwin, Levis and Luke 1977 to name a few.  Browsing racks of clothing while listening to house music is a great way to spend any night.  While some people would put G-Star in the same bracket as brands such as Henleys and Superdry, the new collection seems to be a step in the right direction with heavy selvedge and bowed legs in abundance.
Along with some great jeans, the new G-Star Raw collection includes some great denim shirts, jackets and accessories.  For those of you who haven’t already, check out their website at http://www.g-star.com.  The current G-Star Raw collection is available online at http://www.bridge55.com.

4 Stroke Jeans Spring 2010 Lookbook

4 Stroke Jeans Spring 2010 Lookbook

We featured a brilliant up and coming brand named 4 Stroke a few weeks back and this week we were give a sneaky peek at their Spring 2010 Collection.  The brand are going back to their roots with the S/S 2010 offering “Mother Mother.”  The two-time SIFA-nominated label pays homage to nature by focusing on natural wear, organic pima cotton and Japanese denim for the season.  The line hones in on lighter washes along with light whiskering and wear & tears on lightweight, super-soft premium fabrics.   Although Mother Nature’s ruggedness plays a big role in the design, 4 Stroke has yet to lose its modern, New York City edge.

4 Stroke Jeans Spring 2010

The collection’s aesthetic and attitude proves that creative director, Nate Freeman, is a clever “mother-lover” who makes risky moves in denim.  To spice things up, avant-garde styles have been introduced to the lineup:  a distressed indigo trouser short in a 7 oz. pima cotton and a trouser short in 100% organic natural denim are just two of the new collection’s additions.

4 Stroke Jeans Spring 2010

Past collections have relied bravely on experimental denim fabrics, but the new season shots seem to be sticking more to the true history of denim.  For more information on the line, visit www.4strokejeans.com.

Nadel & Pen Denim by Tilmann Wröbel

Nadel & Pen Denim by Tilmann Wröbel

We had the privilege of finding out about another great new concept this week.  Nadel and Pen is the new denim brand from designer, Tilmann Wröbel.  Born in 1964 in Düsseldorf, Germany, Tilmann travelled to Paris in the 80’s and enrolled as a student fashion designer.  He earned experience working with the most prestigious names in Haute Couture such as Christian Dior and Nina Ricci.  During the past few years, Tilmann has made a name for himself in the denim industry, creating collections for clients such as DC shoes, Quiksilver, Roxy and most recently, Lee Cooper.  His remarkable knowledge of denim has led to him creating his own brand, Nadel and Pen.

The first collection, designed to be presented at the Interselection 2009 trade fair, consists of six models of jeans in several fabrics and washes.  Stretch denim, rigid and vintage; « dirty », « dark used » or « brut » washed.  This first collection is for fashion lovers and for those who are looking for authentic and affordable products.  Each pair of Nadel and Pen jeans contains two texts; a message containing some of the partly unknown history of denim and a universal recommendation – DO NOT WASH!

Nadel & Pen Denim by Tilmann Wröbel

Whether you are a professional from the textile industry or just passionate about fashion, each one of the fifteen garments from the first Nadel & Pen collection gives you the opportunity to learn about a part of the history of denim.

Nadel and Pen strives to remind people that jeans were originally worn for work and were never washed. You could guess a person’s profession just by looking at the creasing and wear of their jeans.  Everyone seems to wear jeans but few know the particularities which make denim unique.  To acquire an individual and vintage look, jeans must be worn in with the friction of everyday life.  Colour will gradually fade, revealing the white weft of the denim, producing a natural 3D effect.  You don’t wash a good pair of jeans, you air them.  With a denim expert at the helm, Denim Geek is looking forward to future collections from this up and coming denim brand.

For more information on Nadel and Pen, check out www.monsieur-t.com.

Original Penguin Premium Denim

Original Penguin Premium Denim AW09

One of our favourite vintage inspired clothing brands, Original Penguin is launching it’s own line of men’s premium denim at not so premium prices for the Autumn/Winter Season of 2009. Penguin have created some beautiful garments over the years since the companies conception in 1955.

Over decades, Penguin has become a staple among the masters of suburban leisure and has been worn by legends such as Bob Hope, Bing Crosby and Richard Nixon.  The brand was revived by a few like minded people in 2003 and since then, has made it’s name with classic polo shirts such as the Earl and Jack.

Original Penguin Premium Denim AW09

The new Original Penguin premium denims follow five pocket designs and versatile slim silhouettes.  The jeans are available in both selvedge and khaki washes.  The selvedge wash creates a look which can be worn casual or smart and features visible selvedge on the back pocket for a clean and sophisticated finish. A little more chilled out, the Indigo Dyed Khaki finish denim has a relaxed look of a well worn pair of vintage jeans.

Original Penguin are targeting these jeans at current customers and haven’t disappointed with a collection of denim that is easy to wear and that follows brand aesthetic.

Each pair of jeans in the collection is low branded, sporting ‘Pete’ the Penguin only on a logo embossed leather waist patch.  The size run on the jeans ranges from 30 to 38 and will be available in two inseams, 30 and 32 on www.originalpenguin.com and at Original Penguin retail stores worldwide.
