Descent (aka Matt Bevan & Tom Barnes) began producing in mid 2004, when they were both in their final years of High School together. At this point both boys were deeply entranced by the more intelligent side of drum and bass, and from this obsession came their passion for vintage neuro. Early work from artists such as Sinthetix/Corrupt Souls, Calyx, Teebee, Kiko, Cause 4 Concern, Mayhem, Phace and Konflict gave them deep inspiration and desire to become a part of what was at the time, a sweeping trend in the world of drum and bass. With the neurofunk genre being well established at this point, Descent began to experiment with various synthesis techniques and methods of sound design. Three years later and after a steep learning curve teaching each other the art of producing via their competitive nature to be better than the other, Descent have earned themselves a release on an up and coming label in their home town of Perth, Western Australia.
