Deviant's musical journey began within his musically diverse family. Following classical piano lessons and an early introduction to jazz, he soon began tinkering with composition. Upon entering university, he was introduced to underground hip hop and drum and bass. He began DJing and soon started his award-winning college radio show, Preshapoints. During this time he took on production, leaning towards the downtempo and hip hop path. As his tastes expanded Deviant began collecting and creating music that spoke from the soul. His first album, Social Commentary vol.1, is a collection of lush instrumental pieces with a spattering of hip hop commentary from fellow emcees, his father, and Deviant himself, and is currently out on Arepaz Records. Beyond the studio, Deviant birthed his jazz-funk-soul-tinged band, Theory Derived, which he also uses as a remix moniker.
