It all started on a september day in 1992 at Diklas Revinu's livingroom, where the Danish artist was jamming the night away with some friends. Not just an ordinairy session, but some low high tech standard with a lot of instruments like guitars, keyboards, electronic percussion, flutes, a didguridoo, and ofcourse voices. Some echo machine they were putting a lot in, was making the recordings special and later on they realised a brand new sound was born.
There has been a great meal served and probably everyone would come and ask for the recepy; but, there isn't any. Neither as there was a plan, strategy or image to work on; there was just the new sound and they called their session the Diklas Revinu Project.
So, the first they ever did was to record a couple of tracks, they would put together as a debut called Poisoned. Not a bad name for something which could be experienced (instead of just listened) as a bad (but very tasty) sort of vitamin. Some will describe it all just as crazy; sure, only the opening track with a lot of weird screams and noises, would give anyone any reason to; but there's more, like the way Diklas sounds like a very stimulating master of ceremonies with those lunatic lyrics. In fact most of the words was created at the time. Only 'Be rude' and 'Sad dragon's tale' were written before they started to play.
The project features three members. Diklas Revinu is the voice, besides the creator of mad sampling and special effects, meanwhile playing the guitar and keyboards or just hit some (whatever he feels like hitting); Marzz, the engineer of the great echoing sound, who also plays drums (electronic most), some keyboards as well and didguridoo. Nick plays keyboards and guitars and sometimes takes over the mic from Diklas.
'Be rude' was out on a single cassette, to promote the album, but 'Family panic' remains to be the most successful track. It was heard on many party's and on one of those the whole equipment, including the DRP tape, was taken away by the police; too much noise, according to the neighbours. All the tracks on Poisoned were recorded over night and when Marzz and Nick went home to get some sleep, Diklas made a list and copied all the material, to record 'Goodbye' at last. The day after the session they gathered together to listen to it and they were all quite surpriced with the result.
In december 1993 Marzz and Nick got together to work on some new material and by unknown reason they decided to finish it without Diklas Revinu; but still calling themselves DRP. In two days the second album Increased substance was recorded; somewhere around christmas, and mixed on a third session; a kind of short therapy.
Increased substance is much more noisier than the debut and it's missing Diklas as lead vocalist/mc. Most of it sounds like a rough wall of strange sound and only half of the tracks on it can be described as songs. But again, they managed to create an interesting performance and the album is great only because it's tearing the line between music and sound apart in every way. Meanwhile Diklas does not like any of it and just wants the world to know he's about to perform as 'The real DRP', to finally record some new stuff on his own.
At the beginning of 2000 they thought it was about tie 'to cook the Thames' once more gaian, getting back together to record a new album: Dixo 4 Strings.
During summer they recorded again which resulted in the promo single Explo 2000, which seems to be about the 'vuurwerkramp' in Enschede on may 13 that year.
The song was finally released four years after recording, to appear on the compilation Familt Panic - The best of DRP, which includes songs from the three released albums as well as some stuff remixed or re-recorded by Nick.
June 2007 Marzz, Diklas and Nick started with the recording od a new album, but only Marzz and Nick recorded some basic tracks. Finally Diklas is not in performance no more and Marzz and Nick will release a semi-compilation called 'Demolition in progress', subtitled 'DRP anthology 1992-2008'. The album will include some new songs and remixes, some re-recordings and some of the previous album or recording sessions for the albums and will be released in june 2008.
We started working on a new and improved DRP. More news to come!
