Discantus

About

Discantus, vocal ensemble for women voices, concentrates on sacred music from the first Western musical notation of gregorian chant to the early Renaissance polyphonies. Directed by Brigitte Lesne, it brings together five to ten a capella singers, alternating solo pieces and tutti, thus uniting unique individual timbres to form a sparkling ensemble sound. Characteristic of the ensemble is the use of bells, played by hand or in a “glockenspiel”.
The ensemble has already recorded twelve cd’s and has been widely rewarded by the music press. The next, recorded in 2009, will highlight some rarely performed polyphonies by the composer Gilles Binchois (1400-1460)
