crazy friday

I got the job at SER TV. I woke up at 6am (actually 6:20am, which is a bit off target considering I had to be awake by 5:30), got prepped up and took a cab to the other end of the city, a 45 min drive through the cartoon that is our morning traffic. Seriously, the same drive on a bus is almost twice the time, but costs 25 cents (yeah, here in PTY we use the american dollar too).

The downside with paying 25 cents is basically that you go in a rolling metal cage full of people who are either piled up sets of 3 per seat or piled up in the space between the seats (think overcrowded yellow school buses) with people literally hanging from the bus door, holding on to dear life, which is kinda cool if you need excitement in your life, and plus if you travel hanging from the door the driver waives you the trip fee!

Seriously though, the REAL reason I didn't really felt like taking the bus is because friday the 20th marks the celebration of Colombia's independence, and I'm cool with that because everybody deserves to celebrate their country's freedomness, but dude... they celebrate listening to this:

dude...

seriously.

It was on almost every station, but the driver wouldn't know that because he doesn't care. All public bus drivers listen to this stuff on their route. On a daily basis. That's... every day. For 10 hours, maybe more.

So I get to the place on my cab, get on the interview and actually got to meet my teammates closer by looking at how they work and sort of slack off. Afterwards I took a trip to the mall and then to college. I left home at 7am and didn't come back til 11pm, too tired or even careless to go out because of the colombian festivities.

On the plus side I have a pretty cool assignment for class which is to make my portfolio using flash, a relatively unknown tool to me which I somehow have to master or at least tame within 6 days. I love these types of challenges because they push me to learn what I'm too lazy to do on my own. Plus I like working under pressure to see if I can take the heat in a real job situation, like the one I'll be in within 3 weeks.
