Past:
Back in 1998, I moved back to Houston from San Francisco and joined a local crew called Afterdark. At the time DJ Bizz was their head of promotions, and he hired me on as one of his top promoters. Over the next year we were able to push attendance at Afterdark shows from about 1,500 when I started working for him to 6,500 at the maximum. My efforts over that period earned me my first few gigs, and my first ever spot at a major party in mid-December 1999.
Shortly thereafter I joined another Houston crew called the Dance Junkies, and with the release of the demo, A Daily Dose of 0045, I was quickly able to garner slots at many (probably most) of the major events in Houston for the next two years. Over that period of time I was given the opportunity to play back to back with the likes of Bad Boy Bill, Charles Feelgood, Donald Glaude, Run DMC, DJ Irene, and many others.
At about the end of 2002, Houston started cracking down on parties and raiding them. The Dance Junkies were one of the last crews to go down, but eventually we did, and with it my general interest in DJ'ing for about the next 4 years.
Present:
Over the last year or so my interest in Dj'ing has returned, due mostly to the fact that I no longer need to support myself with it. I have started writing tracks and made some new mixes. I have also started playing gigs again. Right now I am looking for other serious producers (and I realize this means I need to keep improving) who are interested to collaborate and to play the occasional show.
