About

From her beginnings in classical music, to her political awakening playing in punk bands, to her first belt drive turntables, Indianapolis techno mainstay DJ Shiva has always thrown herself wholeheartedly into the music that drives her. Since her start on the decks in 1995, she has continued to hone her craft for the last decade. Applying years of musical study to the turntables, Shiva has rocked crowds the nation over with her meticulous attention to detail, programming and composition, coupled with smooth mixes, effects, double copy tricks, and quick crossfader play. Those same skills have been applied to her slamming Ableton Live sets, taking her DJing skills into a platform that allows for instant edits and loops, a plethora of effects, and an open palette of unusual creative trickery. With tastes spanning the range from electro, minimal funk, and techno, to dubstep and weird, dub-influenced bass-driven machine music, her versatility keeps things fresh, while her skills shut down any notions of "she's good...for a girl".

Focusing on production for the last four years, she has proved her mettle there as well. Already she has solidified her discography with an original tune for LA-based netlabel Heavy Industries and net exclusive remixes of Kage and Greg Gow for Beretta Music, as well as vinyl releases on Internal Error (a split with Adam Jay and a remix of Woody McBride), Anode Records (a slammin' acid remix of Ron S.), and several lock grooves for Conversation Records in record stores worldwide. With her upcoming musical collaborations soon to drop on Shutdown Audio (a label co-run with her production partner, Dubkraft's Alien Pimp), rest assured you will soon hear her signature style on soundsystems everywhere.

With more production on its way, as well as a fanatic headfirst dive into the bass-laden sounds of UK dubstep (which brought her to the internet airwaves with her DUBterror Radio show on www.dubstep.fm), don't think you know what to expect from this one. Her recent DJ sets have evolved into a hybrid of Detroit electro, dubstep, and techno (from minimal dub to bangin' hard beats), all in the span of one evening. Whether on the turntables, tweaking Ableton Live as a DJ tool, or on the production buttons, you won't know what's coming, but you know it will keep you listening and dancing. The last thirteen years have only been the beginning for Shiva, and the future just keeps looking brighter. You think you know...but you have no idea.
