Joystiq: This past Saturday brought us the Spike TV Video Game Awards and – before experiencing the litany of world exclusives that awaited us inside – we spent some time outside cruising the red carpet and talking (briefly!) to many of the game developers and talent. We squeezed them for information as fast as we could while simultaneously wishing them holiday cheer and good tidings. Yes, it was as awkward as it sounds. HHere's what we learned from Bungie's Curtis Creamer about Halo 3: ODST.

A New School Teaches Students Through Videogames

An 11-year-old boy taps furiously on a laptop, blasting enemies as he weaves through a maze. They wipe him out before he can reach the end-game over. Frustrated, he opens the game's programming window, adjusts the gravity setting, and this time bounds over the baddies. Victory!

This could be the future of American education, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. The Quest to Learn school opened last September in Manhattan, welcoming the first class of sixth-graders who will learn almost entirely through videogame-inspired activities, an educational strategy geared to keep kids engaged and prepare them for high-tech careers

Latest 'Final Fantasy' may be Sony PS3's final chance

Can active time battles, characters called "Lightning" and "Snow", and a convoluted story set in the fantasy world of Pulse turn round Sony's PlayStation 3?

With the launch of Final Fantasy 13 in Japan yesterday (from publisher Square Enix) Sony has entered a crucial period that will seal the PS3's fate.

Final Fantasy is one of Japan's most popular games and in the domestic market number 13 will only be available on PS3. Analysts think that 500,000 Japanese households may buy a Sony console just to play it. The PS3 has lagged well behind Nintendo's Wii and Sony urgently needs to sell more consoles if it is to profit from subsequent software sales.
It now has a chance.

Sony to Still Support the PlayStation 2

Examiner: It's good to know that Sony still cares about the PlayStation 2, or I guess at least that they know they can still make money off of it.

SCEA's head of PlayStation marketing John Koller told GamePro in a recent interview "We have a very firm stance – we're going to continue to support the PS2 wholeheartedly." With a lot of multi-platform titles still getting releases on the PS2 and also exclusives like Persona 4 still making money for the console it's great that they will continue to support the system in 2010.

Being a fan of the Persona series I was happy to see a release of part 4 here last year. So hopefully we will continue to see more great titles in the next year.

Top 10 Games That Need Online Multiplayer/Co-Op

From the PlanetXbox360.com feature list:

"Online gaming on consoles may be popular now, but it wasn't always this way. Systems like the Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, and the original Xbox attempted to bring online gaming to the masses, however, they did so with decent success. The Xbox almost made it happen, especially with heavy-hitting releases like Halo 2 that persuaded gamers to invest in the LIVE service. It wasn't until the launch of the Xbox 360 that gaming online really started taking off. Nowadays, whenever you purchase a new game, there's a huge chance that it features a mode allowing you to play with or against real people (Army of Two - perfect example of teamwork in gaming). Of course, there are still many titles available that don't let players interact with others across the globe. Normally, this is due to many factors, like meeting a deadline or not having enough manpower. In these cases, it's understandable, but there are instances where specific games would have been better with the addition of an online multiplayer or co-op mode."

If there was a game that allowed PS3 and 360 users to play together, we all would play it! Could you imagine if this heated console war that has been raging across the internet made it's way into an online game? Or even being able to play a game with your friends who currently play on the other side? Well in imagining so myself, I've come to the conclusion that a game of this nature would not only be revolutionary, but also a huge success for the industry as well."
