HIGH SCHOOL REUNION

I recently discovered an old portfolio case full of old drawings and paintings that I made in high school, and I thought I would share some of them with you.

All of these drawings were created using graphite, masking tape, scotch tape, white out fluid, and collage on copy paper. I have often considered returning to this method of working and rediscovering these old drawings is giving me the itch to revisit this approach to image making, or incorporate some of those elements into what I'm currently doing. I really like the exaggerated proportions and the expressiveness of the line work. I think seeing these old drawings has reminded me, or reinforced, that I've allowed myself to lose the experimental and carefree spirit that is very much apparent in this old work. I really want to recapture that rawness and that energy that my work once had. I really want to push myself to the limits. I don't want to allow myself to get stuck doing the same thing over and over again. I'm not saying that these old drawings are better than the work I'm currently doing, but they exhibit a "don't give a shit" attitude that I've lost. I need to regain the confidence to do that type of work again. I need to find the guts to step outside of my own comfort zone and do something fresh and different.
