"Transmission Zero" a 13 minute video that combines live video footage with computer generated imagery. The video is an extension of my computer generated works. The video is very abstract. I approached the video like a painting and I want people to view it like they would a painting. I wasn't concerned with making a statement or establishing any sort of narrative element. The imagery is random. I just wanted to create a kinetic painting that was engaging to the eye. This video was created for the Create & Destroy exhibit at Tangent Lab in 2006.

"Attack Plan" is a 20 minute short film documenting Dustin Parker working in his home studio. The film features an original score composed by Arran Lowe and moving images by Dustin Parker.

Statement from the Artist: "Attack Plan is a documentary film that I created in conjunction with "The Destruction Method" solo exhibition at City Arts in 2005. The film documents the creation of a portrait of Pablo Picasso titled "God Is Notorious For Starting Over." I wanted to give my audience a better understanding of how I work.
At one point I painted stenciled letters onto the painting, and then immediately painted over them. I erased 30 minutes of work because the type simply didn't work.
So the film shows all of the failures and successes that occur throughout the process."

HIGH SCHOOL REUNION

I recently discovered an old portfolio case full of old drawings and paintings that I made in high school, and I thought I would share some of them with you.

All of these drawings were created using graphite, masking tape, scotch tape, white out fluid, and collage on copy paper. I have often considered returning to this method of working and rediscovering these old drawings is giving me the itch to revisit this approach to image making, or incorporate some of those elements into what I'm currently doing. I really like the exaggerated proportions and the expressiveness of the line work. I think seeing these old drawings has reminded me, or reinforced, that I've allowed myself to lose the experimental and carefree spirit that is very much apparent in this old work. I really want to recapture that rawness and that energy that my work once had. I really want to push myself to the limits. I don't want to allow myself to get stuck doing the same thing over and over again. I'm not saying that these old drawings are better than the work I'm currently doing, but they exhibit a "don't give a shit" attitude that I've lost. I need to regain the confidence to do that type of work again. I need to find the guts to step outside of my own comfort zone and do something fresh and different.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM DUSTIN PARKER

I wanted to take a moment to wish all of you a very happy holiday season and to thank all of you for your love and support.

I have been hard at work in Santa's workshop cooking up some delicious eye candy for a batch of BIG projects / exhibitions that will be unleashed upon the masses next year.

I'm currently working on a new series of abstract paintings for a solo exhibition at Watermark Books & Cafe. The show is tentatively titled EMPTY CITY and will be my first ALL abstract show. I'm currently exhibiting a batch of brand new abstract paintings at Sugar Sisters Bakery & Cafe and those paintings are a good indicator of the direction I'm heading with my abstract work.

I decided to do an all abstract exhibition because I want to progress forward and explore areas of my creative identity that I haven't previously explored. I find abstract painting to be extremely challenging and stepping up to that challenge really excites me. I'm exploring uncharted territory and part of the excitement comes from addressing new creative challenges and experimenting with new ways to create images. The experience of creating abstract paintings is still very fresh and foreign to me, and that is very invigorating because I don't feel tied down to anything. I feel completely free to make bold creative decisions.

I am frantically working on a self published book titled DIGITAL APOCALYPSE. The book will showcase tons of never-before-seen digital paintings that I am keeping under wraps until the book is released next year. The book will also feature a step-by-step breakdown of my creative process and give readers a behind the scenes look at how a digital painting evolves from start to finish. I plan on celebrating the release of the book with a massive all digital solo exhibition at the Tangent Lab.

I am also in the process of writing a script for a 12 page comic that MIGHT be included in DIGITAL APOCALYPSE. I've always wanted to write and illustrate a graphic novel but the whole idea really intimidates me. In the process of developing ideas for DIGITAL APOCALYPSE I came up with an idea that I felt was deserving of the comic book treatment. My hope is that the story would eventually be expanded into a full graphic novel, or a collection of short stories.

See you in 2009
-Dust
