e gress (n.) 1. a means or place of going out; exit.
2. a hardcore band from the small town of Parkersburg, WV that existed in some form or another from the summer of 1995 until the fall of 1998 leaving behind 3 cassette demos and one split cd.
...and now a sort of retrospective.
HISTORY is the first part of a record I started to cull together from old tape recordings and answering machine messages shortly after we had a small reunion in Parkersburg, April 2005. And since it obviously would never be pressed, the internet serves it's greatest purpose: housing orphan projects for "musicians" who catalog every project because, well, why not?! But! This little project is/was both amusing and touching and once the rest of it is finished, if you care to listen, you can't help but fall in love with the way things were all over again. I hope four people enjoy it as much as I did.
XO,
Nicholas

Orange Drink, Nov 17, 2007:
In 1997, Egress opened up for a classic rock that I played drums + guitar in. The show was at the Village Grill in Chesapeake, VA. Unlike my bandmates, I really loved hardcore, but never knew anyone else who even wanted to try to play that type of music. I remember they rolled their eyes when Egress took the stage. I was totally into it! This guy is screaming and the band is rocking out! I excitedly bought the cassette of "Only Comfort In Disarray" and Nick (I think) ran to the van to get me some stickers with the band logo on them. I was impressed with how generous he was by giving me 5 or so of them. I listened to the tape a lot while driving my car around Virginia Beach, VA. And put the stickers on my school binder and clipboard. I still have two stickers on things with me today, in Chicago. Egress definitely played some awesome emo and hardcore, back when emo wasn't a bad word. This just goes to show everyone that every show counts, and you never know who will find something meaningful in your performance and your art. Egress is definitely an influence on my current band, Orange Drink - so thanks for everything!
