The Stacks.
For two years, I worked at two different libraries. In my current job I still dream about books and pages, numbers running up and down. I used to shelf-read at six in the morning before even the serious students were up. Each window was a funny chink of Monday morning-light. It felt good to sit where walls are just books stacked upwards, and I am too tired to wear makeup, so I had my face in something by Betty Smith or CS Lewis and behave like this lends a little significance to my life....
As for music
Derek Halet. The Two Star Symphony Orchestra (Dani and the Black Cat), nicely simple acoustic arrangements, men with sweet voices, altos, fluid mexican guitars, Jonathan Foreman, Beirut, Beirut, old-fashioned Celtic songs that have no official composer, solo instruments, Cuban lyricists, depressing soundtracks, Bjork, Bach and his AMAZING four-lined compositions for the organ. He played three lines with his hands and the last with his feet. That's ridonkulous.
