About

Empire Lies are a melodic rock outfit from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. Evan Santa (lead vocals/guitar), Daniel Robere (lead guitar/vocals), Dean Hill (bass) and Shaun Berst (drums/vocals) create a unique sound that becomes a sing-along over a dark but melodic style of punk rock. At times, these highly energetic anthems are contrasted with very ambient, and almost atmospheric breakdowns that capture the same emotional feelings that their captivatingly thought-out and heartfelt lyrics do.

Empire Lies formed in November 2006. After playing in several local acts around the Thunder Bay scene throughout the five years prior to their inception - A-440 (Santa & Berst), notatfault (Robere), Rookie of the Year (Santa), Syndicate Ave (Hill) and Stradivari (Robere) - the four high school friends discovered a common love of good times accompanied by great music. They began writing songs in a confined space in Santa's backyard - a place they called "The Studio". After only three months of writing and rehearsing, they were ready to record and take their songs to the stage.

On March 23rd, 2007, Empire Lies not only debuted before nearly 400 people at the Lakehead University Outpost in their hometown, but also released their debut EP 'The Poison I Crave'. From the EP's opening track, the sound-defining "Cadillac of Liars", it is easy to hear the same energy and intensity that is captured in their live shows. The diversity of the songwriting on 'The Poison I Crave' can be heard in comparing the upbeat pop-punk anthem, "Broken Hearts Are Better Than Broken Records" with the eerie and dark, yet incredibly melodic concluding track, "Sundown". With the remaining two songs on the EP, "When Sorry Isn't Enough" and "The Taste Transition Theory", Empire Lies were able to combine all the elements that make their sound unique to create two infectiously upbeat and addicting sing-alongs. On 'The Poison I Crave', Empire Lies sing about heartbreak, despair and loss but manage to do so in a positive light.

All four members of Empire Lies are hard-working, talented and dedicated musicians that each provide their own unique influences to every piece of every song, creating the signature Empire sound. Empire Lies are currently writing for a forthcoming full-length. Recording plans are tentatively scheduled for late-2007 or early-2008.
