As I’ve said on numerous occasions, Equitas is a grassroots movement, dependent upon the involvement of its supporters and volunteers. We would never be where we are today without the creativity and passion of those that have captured our vision and made it their own.
Here is another great example. I’m including an excerpt from the blog of Matt O’Neil, one of our board members. His two children, Jyoti and Sulley, decided to raise money for our secondary school scholarship fund – and they did it while exercising and spending time with their dad. I challenge you to find your own fun ways to help rescue people from poverty. Jyoti and Sulley are a wonderful example of caring hearts and an inspiration to us all.

Earlier this summer, I wrote about how my kids were taking the summer to ride their bikes 100 miles in order to provide scholarships for children in Malawi. They called it One Hundred Miles of Hope and their goal was to invite people to sponsor them a few cents per mile to provide for 4 of the 25 kids Watershed had committed to sponsoring through this project. Thursday evening, they completed the task by riding the final 9.4 miles of the 100 miles they had set their sights on riding. The result was a little over $600 raised and 4 children sponsored. Overall, that makes 25 scholarships for the summer that Watershed, along with the help from donations at Movies in the Park, have created so that 25 kids will have their sophomore year of high school paid for this coming year. Mission accomplished!
