Pita Pit is a place to get pita bread stuffed with your ingredient choices. We thought it was fair to say it was like Subway, but with pita bread instead of bread rolls. The manager/owner stresses that "It's nothing like Subway, we have a totally different concept here." They ask you what number sandwi... er, pita you want, each with an exotic name like, "Club," "Turkey," "Philly Cheese" and so on. Then you tell them what ingredients you want. They have things like lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, onions and even condiments. Chips and a drink?
The food is what you might expect. The sign out front however is obviously a retro powerpoint design ripped straight from the pages of a Windows 95 driver installation manual. With it's gracefully flattened default typeface and color palette, we are presented with a concept that is something totally different than what Subway is stroking at just up the street.Inside we are presented with large, contorted faces on the walls. About a dozen fun characters shaped like vegetables can watch you pick your mustard -regular or spicy. The bell pepper near the front of the room seems almost vengeful, giving you the stink-eye as he watches you decide whether or not to skip his dismembered, sliced up green brothers.I didn't have a chance to ask the proprietor about these looming charachters, but we can rest assured they are something totally different than the characters from Veggie Tales.
