Indie-rock buzz band EX NORWEGIAN formed in 2008 and found themselves performing at the CMJ Music Marathon by October only months after their first gig and the release of their first single “Something Unreal.” Their debut full-length entitled Standby will be released nationally May 19, 2009 on Dying Van Gogh Records - twelve tracks of true D.I.Y. indie rock and power-pop. Originally from the thriving melting pot scene brewing in Miami, it is nearly impossible to place the sound of the quartet geographically. On Standby the group’s love of classic power-pop mixed with British-invasion sensibility creates an irresistibly catchy and unique style.
Ex Norwegian are an indie rock band from Miami, FL with Roger Houdaille (vocals and guitar), Carolina Souto (bass guitar and vocals), Arturo Garcia (drums and vocals) and Billie G (guitar). Part-time member Michelle Grand contributes vocals on recordings and occasional live performances.
Ex Norwegian participated in the CMJ Music Marathon in New York City mere months after their formation, and released two singles: the irresistible Shins-styled folk-pop “Something Unreal” and “Dance Trance Pants” on a 7″ which falls neatly somewhere in between The Killers and 70s glam epitomized by bands like T. Rex. The enthusiastic response to these singles was accompanied by numerous live performances throughout the US in addition to an appearance on European TV network Sky News. The group’s youthful energy and sound described as an “…eclectic mix of powerpop, shoegaze, indie rock, and even hints of stoner rock” by Exploding In Sound.
The debut album, Standby is out nationally May 19th on Dying Van Gogh label. The band and album has attracted a lot of attention and support from the press, with exposure in Boston Globe, Miami Herald and countless blogs and publications.
