Expect Delays

"The dreamy swells of Expect Delays are sharp, crisp, to the point, and more often than not, very danceable. Their 5-song debut EP is a messy affair, heavily influenced by My Bloody Valentine and the electro-art bands of 4AD. Vocal duties switch from guy to girl, and trip-hop rhythms lurk in the backgound, yet Expect Delays confidently place their sure and melodic vocals on even with their syrupy guitar layers. The title track features a soaring female vocal and gentle reverbed guitars glaced over beautifully simplistic looping, and the result is a cross bewteen Cocteau Twins and Portishead. The synth heavy "Steets Washed With Rain" comes off as a 1980's-era techno-pop experiment, complete with overworked drum tones. "The Cold Squeal Of Metal on Metal" and "Recovery & Sleep" are playful arrangements that dabble in electro-glitch and ambient post-rock chill. Their use of ambient space on instrumental compositions is well crafted and decidedly calculated, leaving no gaps in melody or hooks. The urgent passion of "Mood Ring" recalls Two Conversations-era Appleseed Cast, only with the shoegaze-pop coolness of Morella's Forrest. Overall, this is a brilliant little piece of work. No filler...mostly killer. Rating: 7.9." -www.theblackandthewhitemag.com-

hello

hi! thanks for stopping by and taking the time to listen to our music/read this. most of the bio info is on the page already, so i'll skip the boring parts and get to what we've been working on lately.

one is an EP called "romance & magnetic trains," and consists of songs from our first (aborted) attempt at a full-length (which was originally to be a much poppier affair). not bottom-drawer material, though; we really like these songs, but didn't feel they fit with where we wanted to go. pretty straightforward stuff: one rockin' instrumental (the title track), one pop song ("all my friends are dead" - no relation to the song by the english band hood) and one two-part symphonic/noisy statement-of-purpose thingy that's not quite an instrumental but not quite a pop song either ("winning is our business/and business is good," respectively). this ep is written and halway demo'd, but unfortunately, these are more "band" songs - by which i mean we need everyone here to record them - and so this project is on hold until our drummer gets back from kuwait.

the next project is our full-length record, "a source. a spirit. a stream of energy." it's about 3/4 written as i type this, and so far is a little darker and a little stranger. no real "mood rings" on this baby. some songs we know will be on it: "haunted tenements," "the look (an le.d. love song), "dead rhythm," "miles from the sea," and the title track. there are a few more floating around, but they are as yet without form, and void. words being thrown around the practice space/home studio to describe the album are krautrock, ambient, post-rock, electronica, post-punk, etc.

the last thing on the docket is a concept EP we're calling "senes." it's altogether stranger and abstract-"er." lots of programming, lots of layering, lots of tweaking sounds. the tracklist is as follows: "ese," "rhea," "lemsl," "tchou," "state," "xiths senes." since this doesn't involve a lot of "band" work - and i can't even begin to imagine how to play these songs live - this one will most likely be finished first. i'll be sure to post samples as soon as i get them.

that's all i can think of; i'll update as i can. keep well.
