It wasn't too long ago that I purchased Logic Pro 7, so I was a bit hesitant to spring the extra cash to upgrade to the new version of Logic. Boston University, however, has a slammin deal on the package: $150 for the new Logic Studio, standalone. I finally broke down and bought it, and I'm thus far quite pleased.
It doesn't change a whole hell of a lot from the previous version, which is a positive thing in my opinion.
The UI is tuned such that you can do about everything in one window, rather than dealing with setting up various "screensets," and there are a couple new plugins and settings.
One of the more exciting features is a rather advanced delay plugin which is incredibly fun to play with, and an even simpler echo plugin which abstracts some of the detail from its larger brother.
There are also a great deal of new drum samples for Ultrabeat which have a nice punch. Some funny parts about that are two "drum and bass" kits, and a "ghost town" kit, which apparently is for dubstep.
Finally, I've had a lot more luck in getting the sound I want through the new compressor. There are now different models for the compression, of which I've found a VCA mode which sounds, to me, a fair deal better than the older model.
