About

Eyes For Volume is 18-year-old Vincent Whelan from Philadelphia. Inspired by many of his peers and especially his partner-in-musical-crime, Kristen Sylvester, he utilizes his four-track recorder and a few instruments [mostly ukulele, guitar, and vocal harmonies (is that an instrument?)] to craft mostly short-and-sweet pop songs, though he is not limited to short, or sweet.

A Sorta-Bio
Eyes For Volume began in early 2006 as a very ambitious internet project between a then 16-year-old Vincent Whelan and his friend Sam Bowden (A Cardigan & A Frown). Initially supposed to be an electronic music project similar to the Postal Service, it fell apart and numerous electronic demos were abandoned.

Not willing to give up, Whelan recorded a four track instrumental electronic EP in 2006 (You Are The Ocean). When February 2007 came around, Eyes For Volume, now just Whelan, took part in the 2007 RPM Challenge. The Goal: to write and record an album exclusively in the month of February. The goal was met and 2007's "Very Coherent" was the result. This was the first release by Eyes For Volume to showcase Whelan's writing and vocals. The album was recorded electronically, similar to the original 2006 demos, however, they were less electronic, and contained more song structure. It was at the end of the recording session for "Very Coherent" that Whelan decided to finally practice his neglected guitar a little more, and the album closer featured it.

Within a month, Whelan released the C.N.Y.E.P, which was a release dedicated to his girlfriend. The album contained 2 songs (Almost (Stars), New Year) penned in the summer of 2006 which were revamped, as well as two covers (The Beatles, Parenthetical Girls). The EP was similar in style to the previous month's "Very Coherent".

Whelan worked on his songwriting and musical ability and from March to June, he recorded "With Ears To Oak," an album with a very loose, very mild tree/forest/woods theme. The album strayed from the style of the last two releases for the most part, and included mostly ukulele and guitar, though some songs contained recorder, keyboards, and strictly vocal harmonies. The album showed many of Whelan's influences through short pop songs with a lot of heart. Whelan's narrative lyrics shone through in songs such as "Son, I'll Protect You," while others, such as "Our Lives" and "Late" help express his emotional poetic lyrics. Other songs were simply fun, such as "July!."

As of February 2008, Eyes For Volume is currently hard at work on an new album, though he is taking his time. His songwriting has improved as he matured, and will certainly shine through on the new disc.
