Well I saw a face across the room today that may as well have been made out of clouds
Swept up by wisps of flavor, holograms and engine sounds
When we make it to the stars will that just mean a longer commute?
Will there be drive ins on Mars to sell us the same old food?
Will our halos of routine outshine the comets? Can they replace the rings of Saturn?
But now we walk around
Make figure eights in the street
Reach for that dying sky
Like we're gonna suck it down
We stay warm
In each others clothes
And that super secular tug and show
It's all us Earth Creatures really ever know
We just don't even have the time
The time to grow
A song can try to get you dancing but it don't work like hot coals
The daily chores dot the landscape like tumble weeds and telephone poles
You can measure the number of daydreams in shy drunkards and mediocre geniuses
Is that the roar of the highway in the background or the sound of the friction that's all around us
What we need these days is more heroes said to me by this one strange lady
And then I offered her one of my cigarettes and her hero for the day turned out to be me, but
I went and saw a movie with heroes. It also had monsters and lasers and explosions in blue
And when it was over it left us in darkness groping around and wondering what to do
And then I left the theater with the muttering crowd and joined with the sidewalk horde
Looked up and saw the sun
You see we orbit it's taunting glow
Singing This could be my lucky day
Just to keep ourselves from feeling low
We hit the ground
And there's no screaming allowed
And when you're feeling that the callous grows
The one that the Earth Creatures all have on their nose
It all just means that you belong
In your own clothes
So you may as well wear 'em. Come on!
