We grew up in the folk ghettos of New Zealand. Merely children in the early stages, we learnt to get by parodying folk influenced music. Our musical sphere expanded when we accidentally invented rap in 1998 while at a friend's barbecue. Our real breakthrough came in 2001 when folk music reached New Zealand in the form of a Roger Whittaker EP. Suddenly New Zealanders understood what we had been parodying and 'folk parody' became New Zealand's biggest entertainment craze since rugby was invented (also by us in 1989 at a school social). We now have an HBO series for Flight of the Conchords and are putting out comedy folk albums on Sub Pop Records, hurrah!
