Well... here we go.

Hi, Kingsley from Formication here. Not being known for my unflinching commitment to internet-based malarkey this may be the first of many enlightening insights into the world of Formication or it may be one of very few... or maybe the only one I ever write... still, here we go!

The first offering is a series of demos and outtakes from 'Icons for a new Religion', which was released in May this year with Lumberton Trading Company. As with any foray into music making the process yields far more audio that can be comfortably squeezed onto a modern compact disc - it's always a wrench to leave stuff out but if a record is to feel like a cohesive whole with a beginning, middle and end and not sound like a complete mess then you gotta be cruel to be kind, cut some stuff out and save it for another time. Nearly all of these tracks never made it onto the album in any form for one reason or another apart from 'Faces of Fire', which is presented here in its original instrumental version. 'The Impatient Stars' was a track we previously released on Dark Winter for their tribute to Jhonn Balance and the musick of Coil 'Full Cold Moon' bonus compilation. The other tracks were either too long or we felt they didn't quite compliment the rest of the album and took it a slightly different direction.

We intend to use this site to inflict those pieces upon you which, for one reason or another don't fit onto our conventional releases and as we are not constrained by limitations of the physical media it will give us the opportunity to air some of the longer works. Some stuff we feature will undoubtedly resurface on future projects and this will give you a head start on what may be coming next. Hopefully I will get to grips with the whole blogging ethos and talk at you about everything and anything that Alec & I are up to / not up to (not exclusively music related) as well as responding to your comments.

So, that was relatively painless. I'll be back as soon as I dare with news of two new brand new projects and their imminent release. Until then just keep the music player happy (I find it likes to sit in its own window best).

Kingsley
