I love non-fiction. When I was a kid I loved reading about earthquakes and superstitions and ghosts. So is it really any wonder that I would turn out to be the person who gets to pick out all the new Adult Non-fiction books for the library? Is it also any wonder that my son loves non-fiction too?
There are so many great non-fiction books for kids these days I often don't know where to start. For decades the American Library Association has given out annual awards for the best illustrated children's book (Caldecott Medal) and the best written children's book (Newbery Medal). Now they have finally instituted an award for children's nonfiction. HIP HIP HOORAY! It was about time. The Sibert Informational Book Medal for was started in 2001 to honor the author(s) and illustrator(s) of the most distinguished informational (non-fiction) book published in English the preceding year.
