This is my first post on VIRB. And it's not so much for other people as it is for me. But, of course, I hope you enjoy it too :)
In my spare time (whenever that is :)), I've been listening to a sermon series by Erwin McManus called "Intersections". It's powerful because McManus is the kinda pastor who has a heart for his community and is in love with the city of Los Angeles. And as he had preached and had many conversations with the people of Los Angeles, his wife gave him an idea that the billboards of the city are also speaking to people.
The first week he shared about a billboard that said, "Life is short -- have an affair." I don't have enough time to go into that one tonight. The second week, he talked about the a billboard that simply said "He was no Einstein..." of course with a picture of guess who??? Albert Einstein. And McManus' talk centered around confidence and becoming and unleashing the "extraordinary" person inside of you.
All of us are unique. We're all special in some way or another. I was so inspired as I listened to this message -- which centered a little around the life of Moses, Einstein, Mother Theresa, and others who -- in their youth, seemed to have no meaning in their lives whatsoever. No one imagined anything great out of these individuals, but God had other plans.
It made me think about my own life. Many times it can be easy to think that we're not valuable and forget who we really are. But God has designed something great within each of us from the very first breath in life.
