I remember rain in a foreign land I called home. I danced in the darkness to keep me warm. And I recall the way my thoughts darted skyward; piercing the limits to break me down. | Why did I leave you, my city, my sweet? You gave me nothing but everything (I just moved on). Why did I venture to entertain others when all that I wanted was you? | I remember snow on the sills on a Wednesday when beautiful, comforting grays splashed 'cross the sky. You were the background for stories and paintings and symphonies. Loves come and go but you never leave. | Why did I flee you, my city, my sweet? You gave me nothing but everything (I just moved on). Why did I venture to explore another when all that I wanted... | Sometime I visit you (but it's mostly in dreams) for tales and travels on your checkerboard lanes. Hope met the optimist in a younger man's clothes. I felt tall in your streets and alive in your skies. | I recall the hours spent in your winter, fighting for pleasure and feeling true pain. And may there come a day when waters will wash me back 'cross the deserts and into your fold.
