Anything and everything by Tim Burton, The Cohen Brothers, Terry Gilliam, and Kevin Smith (I could name them all...but that's just wasting space). If it's Monty Python it's great in my book (I keep saying 'in my book', let me clarify; I am not writing but applications for Ghostwriters are currently being accepted.), The Princess Bride, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Garden State, Quills, Adaptation, Lock, Stock, & Two Smoking Barrels, Lost in Translation, The Last Samurai (a great movie despite Tom Cruise), Heathers, The Cat's Meow, The People vs. Larry Flynt, I Heart Huckabees, The Neverending Story, The Usual Suspects, Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, Fight Club, Snatch, Audition, Ichi the Killer, Old Boy, Amelie, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Hedwig and The Angry Inch, Buckaroo Banzaii, Amadeus, UHF, Real Genius Most all of the cheesy 'brat pack' movies from the '80s... Any Eddie Izzard stand-up(Though I am not sure stand-up comedy fits under 'Movies')....the list goes
I know it's a copout to say I like pretty much everything...except this or that...so I will run down some of my faves off the top of my head. This is, by no means, a comprehensive list. They Might Be Giants, DEVO, Mr. Bungle, Faith No More, Mike Patton, Bad Religion, Tori Amos, Mike Doughty, Soul Coughing, Oingo Boingo, Elvis Costello, Danny Elfman, Tom Lehrer, MC Chris, Loudon Wainwright III & His son..Rufus Wainwright, Cake, Handsome Boy Modelling School, Leonard Cohen, Mindless Self Indulgence, Barenaked Ladies, Lovage, Fantomas, Tomahawk, Miscellaneous Musicals...Though my favorite is Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street, Kaki King, The Aquabats, The Cure, The Bobs, The Specials, The English Beat, Levellers, Ani Difranco, Moxy Fruvous, A Perfect Circle, Tool, Weird Al Yankovic, Barnes & Barnes, Björk, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Gorillaz, Modest Mouse, The Killers, Modest Mussorgsky, Henry Rollins, Henry Phillips, Franz Ferdinand, Nine Inch Nails, Stephen Lynch, Sigur Ros, Portishead, John Zorn (and most anything on the Tzadik label), Kraftwerk, Laura Love, The Pixies, The Austin Lounge Lizards, Poi Dog Pondering, Pee Shy, Reel Big Fish, Me First & The Gimmie Gimmie's, Secret Chiefs 3, Tenacious D, Suzanne Vega, Queen, The Vapors, OkGo, Sir-Mix-A-Lot... Neuromancer, Count Zero, Mona Lisa Overdrive...etc. William Gibson really can do no wrong in my book (Though my favorites are his Sprawl Trilogy. The Picture Of Dorian Gray, The Importance Of Being Earnest or anything else by Oscar Wilde. Dragonlance Chronicles/Legends and just about any other books by Margaret Weiss and Tracy Hickman. I enjoy reading and listening to books/essays by David Sedaris (his work on This American, it was a book first), The Professor and The Madman (who knew so many words in the English language came from a guy in a nuthouse that cut off his own penis?), Book of Five Rings by Musashi Miyamoto, Frank Miller's Dark Knight series. Keeping with the whole fantasy theme, I love the Harry Potter books as well as the 'villian' books by Gregory Maguire, Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire novels. Some others: The Divine Comedy by Dante, Philosophy in the Bedroom by de Sade, Brave New World, The Stranger, Naked Lunch (and other Burroughs) and Random bits of good ol' Bukowski are sure to delight....Those are some off the top of my head...
