Last week work made a last minute decision to fly me to Sydney so I could drive the ute-truck back to Wagga. It was kinda a win-win situation. Work would get the ute-truck transported to Wagga and I could bring some furniture back from Sydney to Wagga. It felt like a good deal to me because not only did I get my furniture to Wagga but I also turned my one day off work into 2.5 days off work. I would have loads of time to catch up with friends, etc. Well at least that's what I thought. It turned out that all my free time turned to dust and kind of evaporated into air never to be seen again.
Wednesday
* flew to Sydney at lunchtime
* caught a train out to St Mary's to pick up ute-truck. My ignorance of western Sydney is alive and well. I had no idea it was that FAR away.
* the ute-truck wouldn't start.
* embarked on a 2 hr trek to the shire. my hatred towards sydney public transport has been re-ignited
* chilled with the dad
Thursday
* back on public transport to Kogarah for oral surgeon appointment about my wisdom teeth
* definitely need to get wisdom teeth out (getting them out this Friday - 4th July)
* sorted some of my stuff out at home, ie. put things in a safe place so dad doesn't throw them out!
* found out that they had changed out the ute-truck's battery a few days ago but hadn't bothered to check if it actually started. it wasn't connected properly and that was the reason it didn't start. these are the kind of incompetent people I work with. who changes a battery and then doesn't even check if the vehicle starts? got into a semi argument about having to take 2 IBCs back to Wagga... no way they'd fit with my furniture. we finally agreed on 1 IBC.
* stole dad's car and caught up with Tamara over some pub food and a beer
Friday
* public transport to chatswood
* informal interview / chat with the staffing manager about THAT job
* went really well. we talked about life, england and money. although it's still not definite I am one step closer. still depends on higher powers approving a new staff member and the company winning a project in the next couple of weeks. so will find out then.
* back on public transport. back to st mary's for take 2 of picking up the ute-truck. this time it started.
* got semi lost, going around in circles, missing turn offs, etc using the GPS escaping St Mary's. thank god for GPS. never would of found my way out without it.
* total time spent on public transport in Sydney over 2.5 days = 9.5hrs
* exhausted
Saturday
* loaded up the ute-truck with furniture - bed, desk, set of drawers, coffee table... all tied down with rope and tarps
* drove back to Wagga. amazingly only took 5.5 hrs. despite the slow sluggish ute-truck. despite having to stop for petrol twice. despite having to stop for breaks 3 times.
* you feel every bump and even get a little bit of air over some of them. you need to concentrate so much. the steering is dodgy, the radio is crap. and only when going downhill with the wind behind it can it reach 110km/hr. its a rust bucket that is 20 years old. it was so much fun though.
* I got so many wierd looks at service stations and while on the road. I guess no one expects someone like me to be driving a vehicle like that.
* dropped the ute-truck at work. the guys at work couldn't believe that I'd just drove it back from Sydney.
* very sore arms from lifting furniture and driving the ute-truck
the beast... check out the number plates (Black Oil)... I think they are worth more then the ute-truck
