Amp Fiddler - Afro Srut

Having shared the stage and studio with luminaries such as Prince, George Clinton & the P-Funk All-Stars (with whom he toured for more than 10 years), Brand New Heavies, Jamiroquai, Maxwell and Carl Craig, Amp Fiddler returns with his sophomore album Afro Strut. Credited with playing a pivotal role in bringing Slum Village to global attention, Amp was also a friend and collaborator of the late J Dilla / Jay Dee. Amp Fiddler's warm, expansive, mellifluous music emerges as earthy, supremely relaxed, and rooted in the funk and soul to which he feels most connected.

Afro Strut is a record made with reference to a world that warmly embraces him and his music. The first single, "If I Don't," is an uplifting 30s inspired song, sprinkled with woozy jazz vocals of Corinne Bailey Rae. The title track, which features veteran Afro-funk pioneer, Tony Allen, appears as a series of linking fragments, giving the record a strong foundation in the motherland. Between and around these pieces, Amp weaves songs that speak of the personal and political, the sacred and profane. On the timeless ode to spirituality, "Faith," Amp is joined by Raphael Saadiq and on "Heaven," he duets with the sonorous Stephanie McKay. Amp Fiddler recently swept the 2007 Detroit Music Awards as a winner in 3 categories and he has no plans of stopping - a talent of such caliber is certainly destined for no less.
