We know what to bring...

I don't have any strong ties with Virginia Tech. I only know of one student that goes there and he is alright. However, today I was going to work listening to NPR and I heard:

Reflections on Columbine and Blacksburg
After listening to this I started thinking about Psalm 51:
"Deliver me from bloodshed, O God, O God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of your deliverance. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. For you have no delight in sacrifice; if I were to give a burnt offering, you would not be pleased. The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. Do good to Zion in your good pleasure; rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, then you will delight in right sacrifices, in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings; then bulls will be offered on your altar." Psalms 51:14-19, NRSV.
After thinking about this I have this to offer.

A Prayer for times of National Tragedy

Oh God, you are the author of life.
We come to you today as a broken people,
We don't know, what to think,
We don't know, what to feel,
We don't know, what to say,
We don't know, what to do.
We do know, what to bring,
We bring to you our broken hearts.
Hearts, which sensed the good of your creation,
Hearts, which had hoped for something more;
And now are broken.

Oh God, You are the great physician,
No healing can take place without you,
Let us grieve, where we need to grieve,
Let us remember, where we need to remember,
If possible, oh God;
Reconcile us; where we need reconciliation,
Heal us; where we need healing.

Be with us,
Be with those who suffer:
Be with those who suffer in body.
Be with those who suffer in mind.
Be with those who suffer in spirit.

Be with those who care:
Be with those who tend those who have a broken body.
Be with those who counsel those who are broken hearted.
Be with those who minister those who have a broken spirit.

Oh God be with us,
That one day we can once again see the good of your creation,
That one day we can see You more clearly.
