GUT-BUSTING ANTHEMS FROM NEW NY HARDCORE HEROES
THE WAVES of sound emanating from the stage tonight are nothing short of glorious. Accelerating through warm melodies and walls of guitars to a screaming, bug-eyed conclusion, all-new NY quartet God Fires Man straddle punk, hardcore and alt-rock with note-perfect precision.
It’s only when you squint your eyes that you recognise mainmen Arty Shepherd and Joseph Grillo, whose CVs include previous road dogs Garrison, Instruction and current outfit Gay For Johnny Depp.
If the mincing smutty sonic violence of GFJD satisfies their libidos and inner jock, then God Fires Man is the cerebral flipside. Five months since they formed, it also happens to be their most potentially world-beating proposition yet. Fresh from a tour with Hundred Reasons, they manage to simultaneously bring to mind Muse and Nirvana and equally as important underground bands such as Quicksand and Girls Against Boys without the obvious connotations that come with such comparisons.
“This song is called ‘Fucking Sick Ass Fucking Rock Song’,” announces singer Shepherd, so fresh are these occasionally title-less songs. But what we do know is that impassioned tracks such as ‘The Shrug’ and ‘The Killer’ leave jaws on the floor. On tonights evidence, it’s God that should be worried for his position.

God Fires Man will rock you. In fact, later in life you may be asked by a police man to show him exactly "where on this doll God Fires Man rocked you."
