About

Grand National are Rupert Lyddon and Lawrence 'La' Rudd, two London boys who came together through the capital's cover bands circuit, but who, together, have created some of most refreshing and original new music to come out of the UK so far this century.

Brilliant debut album 'Kicking The National Habit' was first unleashed in 2004, delighting critics and music fans across the world as both the album and the guys arrived in country after country.

The critics, charged with the task of describing this new sound, most often made positive comparisons with the likes of the Happy Mondays and New Order, and, probably because of La's wonderful vocals, The Police.

After two and half years of constant promoting and touring, Rupert and La finally got back into the studio at the end of 2006 to begin work on the follow up, 'A Drink and a Quick Decision', which will be released by Recall on June 11th 2007 digitally and in stores on September 10th.

The formula that gave us 'KTNH' was re-employed - with Rupert the production genius doing what La calls the "scientific twiddling", while La himself subconsciously wrote and delivered the catchy lyrics that make Grand National' s songs so extra special. We can covering a wide and stylish range, from John Carpenter to Talking Heads, from Joni Mitchell to Hall & Oates.

The result is another awe-inspiring album that both continues and extends what we got on the debut.

There's a darker more obviously electro sound on some tracks, while others have an even more live instrumental sound, perhaps influenced by the much acclaimed Grand National live shows that have evolved since the debut was recorded.

But throughout the sound remains very much Grand National, and for my money, you can't get better than that.

"We all admire the spangled acrobat with classical grace meticulously walking his tight rope in the talcum light; but how much rarer art there is in the sagging rope expert wearing scarecrow clothes and impersonating a grotesque drunk! I should know."
Thank you for your friendship! Musical greetings from Munich/Germany!
