Protecting the innocent is something that has often been heavy on my heart. I once wrote a song about one of my favorite books, Catcher in the Rye, in which I sang about how I wanted to warn all the children not to lose their faith as I have a certain times in my life.

Today is the Feast Day of John the Apostle (or the Divine or the Revelator or the Evangelist), but since its also MP3 Saturday, I thought I would forgo my usual post for feast days and treat you to my cover of the traditional blues tune, "John the Revelator".

The Stoning of St. Stephen, Rembrandt, 1625 oil on canvas
These days St. Stephen's Day is a more important religious holiday for me than Christmas. Sure I got to church on Christmas Eve and try to understand the story I've heard many times, but frankly the mystery of …

O holy Child of Bethlehem
Descend to us, we pray
Cast out our sin and enter in
Be born to us today
We hear the Christmas angels
The great glad tidings tell
O come to us, abide with us
Our Lord Emmanuel
Merry Christmas!

As I mentioned before, I've been working on new mini printed from carved Styrofoam printing plates (cut from my egg cartons and meat trays.) Last night, I got a chance to print off a bunch of pages and early this morning I got to work on it again. Here's the first …

We had some church friends over yesterday for lunch. Since we don't have any toys, my wife suggested we decorate cookies with the kids. I helped out by showing them how to make snowflakes (and then how to be "human vacuums" and cleaning up all the scraps!)

I always look forward to winter break, because it means I can make more COMICS.
I got a head start on printing these up this weekend.

When I was younger I thought it was a cop out when people would talk about the "peace that surpasses all understanding" amidst injustice and pain. It seemed like the Tralfamadorians covering up their eyes so as not to look at the reality of evil.
Yet, the themes of …

I show the Kindergarten classes a Power Point about all the different aspects of Cathedrals (arches, rose windows, stained glass, flying buttresses.) Then, they trace around a circle template on a piece of paper and fill the circle with decoupaged tissue paper.

I just finished Tezuka's classic "Apollo's Song" and I highly recommend it. Though its not for the faint of heart, I would recommend it for the sheer beauty of design.
