The Book that I'm Reading Today...

I have an eccentric habit of putting books on my bed so it will be easy for me to pick it up and read it. Sometimes, I collect a lot of books until I could no longer find enough space to sleep in. I am currently reading a book about the business side of music before I fall asleep and the title of the book is "Start and Run Your Own Record Label" by Daylle Deanna Schwartz. Honestly, I'm still practicing my profession in the medical field but I'm starting to get interested in showcasing the music of unsigned acts partly because of the quality of acts that I see and hear. But because of my lack of knowledge about the business side of music, I thought that the book might give me some pointers. Fortunately, the author did provide a lot of information--the pitfalls, the perks and the possible challenges that come to any indie labels. Although I still have a lot of pages to read, I'm hoping to read more information that I need. Of course, I'm still looking forward to learn more about the music business, particularly running an indie label, but I guess this book gives a good start.
Now why do I want to make my own record label? I just feel that I am disillusioned with what I'm hearing right now on the radio and what I read and see. Right now, I'm glad that MTV got pulled out off the Philippine UHF because of the overabundance of reality shows and if there were music videos of new artists, the kind of music they have gives me the urge to beat them to the pulp. I mean, how did they manage to snag a deal with THOSE kind of music? Or they already called their noise as music? I have seen and heard acts who sound better than those featured on MTV although they are unsigned or unable to secure a contract with a major label and I feel that if only these artists get to show their music to the general public, music would continue to be interesting and MTV will remain to be a channel for music videos and not inane reality boo-boo's.
I think the book is not only helpful for any future Berry Gordy Jr. or David Geffen but also for music managers.
If there's anyone who here who could provide me some help about this topic, please message me and I will appreciate it.

Falling Leaves

Here I am
Standing in the middle of the road
Alone and battling the cold.
Here I am
Looking back and waiting
To see you there and smiling.

But you're gone...

Long gone before the memories fade.
For our memories meant nothing to you.
As I meant nothing too.

The leaves are falling around me.
The summer is ending before I felt it begin.
The trees are now weeping for me.
The cold rain is starting to fall on my skin.

Where do I go now that I'm alone?
Where do I cry without your shoulder?
Questions I ask now that you're gone.
I can only pray to be stronger.

Plans to change my profile name

When I decided to create an account here at Virb, I named my profile after my wordpress--which is now on its new home at blogspot--literary attempt blog. Just recently, I am entertaining some thoughts to rename my profile into KopiKido because I am actually a coffee lover ever since I was a kid. There's just one thing that's stopping me from doing so. Since Virb caters to all nationalities, I want to make sure that KopiKido doesn't mean "crazy little manure" in another language. To all my friends here, if you have spare time, please assure me that it's ok to rename my profile. Drop me a message or two ( like "Ok, go ahead" or "Stop! For God's sake, what are you thinking?!").
Thanks!

New Tenant: My First Blog Here at Virb

Last week, I think it was Thursday or Friday, I moved here at Virb with an intention to replace my Multiply account. If you probably don't know, Multiply ruffled the feathers of its users when they disabled the music sharing capability. Their main explanation for the change is that the record companies pressured them over the grounds of copyright infringement. In short, the record companies, who have been ripping off both the artists and the record buyers for a long time, are complaining when the tables are turned on them. How lovely.
Through Google, I browsed for alternative social network sites and came upon an article about the Top Ten Beautiful Social Network sites--which led me to Virb. Although I'm a bit low maintenance in real life, I am quite opposite in the e-life and one of the things that attracted me to Virb is the capability to change my page according to my taste and usual mood--or if I have the chance to use my brother's laptop (someday...someday, I'll get that EeePC or the Mac).
Although Virb doesn't have the capability of music sharing, the one that I'll miss the most in Multiply, so far, I'm quite happy with my account. I don't know if the other Virb users feel or notice this but this site have some sort of elegance and simplicity that my other accounts (Friendster and that ugly MySpace) possess. Right now, I'm yet to convince myself to let go of my Multiply account (I still haven't transferred my stuff from there to here) because Multiply might be convinced to return the music sharing capability but I sure wouldn't let go of my brand new home here at Virb. What do you guys think?
