dude.. I went to the first two festivals (the original DEMF) and I must say it is the most amazing thing that happened to Detroit. I was doing a light show in the bottom stage along with fanon flowers.. old skool.. I will never forget the afterparties and ending up at the UR headquarters hanging out with mad mike... those are days I will never forget.

So after a winter/spring season of lots of releases for me to freak out about, there seems to be a bit of a lull at the moment. If anyone has any proof to the contrary, im all ears.

im a little disappointed in how "dead" the downtempo scene is. Aside from the DJ Vadim album i havnt really heard much from that genre. Aside from the Ninja Tune old guard, it seems like few artists are making "traditional" downtempo these days. I miss the early 2000s where labels like Ninja, Grand Central, Tru Thoughts, Compost, and others were cranking it out.

yeh, there's a lot of really chill IDM type stuff, but you're right, a lot of the groove of "traditional" downtempo is really missing in my collection of recent music over the past couple years.

sup wit dat.

Tim G. says:

not exactly downtempo, but Kelley Polar's new Chrysanthemum EP has me pretty excited for a full length, soon I hope.

also exciting, downtempo at times and a little creepy/weird... Peder's (The Prunes) new solo debut on Ubiquity;
And He Just Pointed To The Sky...

ahhh Mo'Wax Records... thems were the days, you are missed :(

I just got the new Vladislov Delay album (aka Luomo), but its far from popping. Its very dubbed out and almost experimental ambient, and being the turbodork that i am...i like it.

Check "Skweee" out, its synthetic, funky, rough and minimalistic music from skandinavia. Definetly something to nod your head to: www.nationofskweee.com, thats been my driving force for a while.

if anyone has heard the new bjork album volta, i'd be curious to hear your first reactions.

mine...aside from the 2 or so songs with other vocalists, i like it. it has a much harder edge almost reminiscent of post. although it is pretty repetitive i enjoyed the overall sound and cohesiveness (is that a word?) of the album....

feel free to disagree ;)

Coachella is great, but I feel like it's also a process. Anyone else get that vibe?

posted May 9

ova says:

ya its a process but the process is what makes it so fun. i dunno. i love festivals though but its certainly not for everyone.
i love that every year i go down its a completely different experience! i go expecting things to be similar to the way they were the year before and then something happens (like my bag with all my gear doesnt show up) and it changes the entire weekend.

@heaphonic - yer the nub! i'm teh AWESOME. and also, even though you already know my coachella/rage pics are here
